이후 재외동포청 및 주요 세계 한인단체와의 협력을 통해 대형 이벤트를 연이어 유치하며 가시적인 정책 성과를 이뤄냈다.
그러나 이번 연구에서는 현재의 재외동포 정책이 단기적·이벤트 중심의 사업에 편중되어 있으며, 국내 거주 동포 정책과의 연계도 제한적이라는 점에서 구조적 개선이 필요하다는 문제의식을 제기했다.
이에 보고서는 인천시 재외동포 정책의 지속가능성을 높이기 위한 네 가지 중점 정책 방향을 도출햇다.
