‘야생동물의 길’ 이리재 생태통로 준공 … 낙동정맥 생태축 복원

【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시 북구 기계면 봉계리에 위치한 ‘이리재 생태통로’가 이달 준공됐다. 이에 단절됐던 낙동정맥 생태축이 복원됐다고 포항시가 11일 밝혓다.

‘이리재 생태통로’는 지방도 921호선을 가로지르며 운주산과 봉좌산을 연결하는 육교형 구조물로, 폭 30m·연장 28m 규모로 조성됐다. 

물웅덩이와 그루터기 등 동물 유도 시설을 비롯해 차량 불빛과 소음을 차단하는 구조물도 설치돼, 야생동물이 안심하고 이동할 수 있는 환경을 갖췄다.

이번 사업은 총사업비 50억 원을 투입해 환경부의 ‘한반도 생태축 연결·복원사업’의 하나로 추진됐다. 지방도 921호선 개통으로 단절됐던 낙동정맥 생태축을 복원하고 야생동물의 안전한 이동을 보장하는 것이 핵심 목표다.

포항시는 이번 준공으로 멧돼지, 고라니, 너구리 등 주요 포유류는 물론 양서·파충류의 원활한 이동이 가능해져 교통사고 예방에도 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 또한 생물 다양성 증진과 지역 생태계 안정성 확보에도 긍정적인 효과가 있을 것으로 내다봤다.

도명 환경국장은 “이리재 생태통로는 끊어진 생태축을 다시 잇는 상징적인 공간”이라며 “야생동물의 안전한 이동뿐만 아니라 지역 생태계 보전에도 큰 역할을 할 것”이라고 말했다.

Pohang City expects that this completion will facilitate the smooth movement of major mammals, including wild boars, deer, and raccoons, as well as amphibians and reptiles, thereby contributing to the prevention of traffic accidents. It also anticipates positive effects on biodiversity enhancement and the stability of the local ecosystem.

Director Do Myeong of the Environmental Bureau stated, "The Irijae Ecological Corridor is a symbolic space that reconnects a severed ecological axis. It will not only ensure the safe movement of wildlife but also play a significant role in preserving the local ecosystem."
