[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시가 환경 보전과 지역 발전의 두 마리 토끼를 모두 잡은 성공 사례로 전국적인 인정을 받았다. 김해시는 전국지속가능발전협의회 주최 제27회 대한민국 지속가능발전 공모전에서 최우수상에 선정되었다고 11일 밝혔다.
이번 수상은 민·관이 협력하여 지속가능발전목표(SDGs)를 실천한 우수 사례를 발굴하는 공모전에서 '20년의 동행, 람사르습지도시 김해, 지속가능 여정'이라는 주제로 이뤄낸 값진 성과다.
최우수상을 수상한 김해시의 핵심 사례는 '화포천습지'로, 국내 최대 하천형 습지인 화포천은 멸종위기종을 포함한 812종의 생물이 서식하는 생태계의 보물창고다.

김해시는 지난 2004년부터 꾸준한 생태 모니터링, 환경 정화, 복원 사업을 추진해왔다. 특히 2022년부터 시작된 황새 복원 사업을 통해 올해 3마리의 새끼 황새 인공 부화에 성공했으며, 올해 람사르습지도시로 공식 지정되는 쾌거를 이루었다.
김해시는 단순히 환경 보전에 그치지 않고, 주민과 시민단체, 유관기관과의 협력을 통해 생태관광과 친환경 농업을 연계하는 상생 모델을 만들었다.
