【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시는 김석기 국회 외교통일위원장과 주낙영 경주시장이 김상철 APEC 준비지원단장과 함께 주말 동안 정상회의 주요 시설을 직접 점검했다고 15일 밝혔다.

지난 14일 세 사람은 HICO 정상회의장을 비롯해 국제미디어센터, 경주엑스포대공원 내 산업전시관과 K-테크 쇼케이스, APEC CEO 라운지 조성 현장 등을 차례로 둘러보며 공정 상황을 확인했다. 이들은 미비점을 지적하고 보완책을 제시하는 한편, 현장 근로자들을 격려했다.
또한 정상회의 직전 열릴 최종고위관리회의와 외교통상합동각료회의가 예정된 라한호텔 컨벤션홀, 정상 숙소로 사용될 PRS룸 등을 방문해 경호·의전·안전·편의시설 전반의 준비 상황을 꼼꼼히 살폈다.
앞서 김 위원장과 주 시장은 지난 7일에도 국립경주박물관 내 정상 만찬장 건설 현장을 찾아 공정 상황과 동선, 경호·의전 문제 등을 직접 점검한 바 있다. 이날 현장에서 김 위원장은 발걸음 수와 소요 시간을 일일이 확인하며 초 단위까지 체크해 관계자들의 긴장을 높였다.
김석기 위원장은 “행사의 성패는 마지막 2%에 달려 있다”며 “한 치의 소홀함도 없이 철저히 준비해 달라”고 강조했다. 이어 “다가오는 경주 APEC이 역대 최고의 회의가 될 수 있도록 국회와 정부 차원에서도 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.
주낙영 시장은 “작은 부분까지 세심히 보완해 실질적 성과로 이어지도록 끝까지 최선을 다하겠다”며 “경주가 세계의 중심에서 새로운 역사를 쓰는 순간을 완벽히 준비하겠다”고 말했다.
