영덕 영해면 예주문화예술회관 대극장에서 지난 18~19일 열린 코믹오페라 '버섯개떡'은 시각·청각 장애인부터 휠체어 이용자, 발달장애인까지 누구나 편안하게 관람할 수 있도록 배려한 공연이다. 이번 공연은 안동문화예술의전당 주관, 예주문화예술회관 협력, 경상북도 후원으로 추진된 ‘무장애 활성화 제작 공연 유통사업’의 일환이다.
작품은 20세기 미국 작곡가 세이무어 바랍의 'La Pazza con Funghi(버섯 피자'를 조선시대로 각색한 작품으로, 김치대감과 꽃님아씨, 겉절이 선비, 하녀 순덕이가 얽히며 벌어지는 유쾌한 애정 소동을 그린다.
특히 이번 공연은 영덕에서 처음 시도된 무장애 공연으로, 휠체어 진입이 가능한 좌석 배치뿐 아니라 한글 자막, 수어 통역, 음성 해설, 점자 리플릿을 마련해 시각·청각장애인 모두 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 했다. 또 장시간 관람이 어려운 관객을 위해 자유로운 입·퇴장이 허용됐으며, 무대 위에는 수어 해설사가 함께해 관객의 몰입도를 높였다. 덕분에 지역 내 다섯 개 장애인 단체에서 온 200여 명의 관람객은 웃음과 박수로 무대를 가득 채웠다.

이번 공연은 안동·영덕·포항이 공동으로 준비한 협력형 콘텐츠로, 지역 문화계가 무장애 공연 문화를 선도하는 계기가 됐다. 또한 최근 개정된 ‘문화예술진흥법 시행령’과도 맞물리며 의미를 더했다. 개정 시행령은 전국 759개 국공립 문화시설에서 연간 최소 1회 이상 장애 예술인의 공연이나 전시를 개최하도록 규정하고 있다. 영덕군 역시 내년부터 장애 예술인의 공연과 전시를 적극적으로 유치한다는 방침이다.
공연장을 찾은 한 청각장애인 관객은 “자막과 수어 통역 덕분에 작품을 완전히 이해할 수 있었고, 오페라에 푹 빠져 즐겼다”며 만족감을 드러냈다. 영덕문화관광재단 관계자는 “이번 공연은 영덕이 장애인을 포용하는 도시임을 알리는 계기가 됐다”며 “앞으로도 장애인과 비장애인이 함께 누릴 수 있는 문화예술 공연과 다양한 프로그램을 지속적으로 마련하겠다”고 밝혔다.

This performance is part of the "Barrier-Free Production and Distribution Project," hosted by the Andong Arts Center, in collaboration with the Yeju Arts Center, and supported by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

This performance, a collaborative effort jointly prepared by Andong, Yeongdeok, and Pohang, served as an opportunity for the local cultural community to pioneer barrier-free performance culture. Furthermore, its significance was heightened by its alignment with the recently revised Enforcement Decree of the Culture and Arts Promotion Act. The revised Decree stipulates that 759 national and public cultural facilities nationwide must host at least one performance or exhibition by artists with disabilities annually. Yeongdeok County also plans to actively attract performances and exhibitions by artists with disabilities starting next year.
A hearing-impaired audience member who attended the performance expressed her satisfaction, saying, "Thanks to the subtitles and sign language interpretation, I was able to fully understand the work and thoroughly enjoyed the opera." An official from the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation stated, "This performance served as an opportunity to showcase Yeongdeok as a city that embraces people with disabilities.
