이재명 대통령이 22일 유엔총회 참석차 3박 5일 일정으로 미국 뉴욕으로 출국한다.
이 대통령은 이날(현지시간) 뉴욕 도착 후 첫 일정으로 세계 최대 자산운용사 블랙록 래리 핑크 최고경영자(CEO)·미 상·하원 의원단 등을 접견한다.
이틀째인 23일 유엔총회 기조연설에 나서며 24일 유엔 안전보장이사회 공개 토의를 주재하고, 마지막 날인 25일 미국 월가 금융계 인사들과 한국 기업인들을 만나 한국경제설명회(IR) 투자 서밋 행사를 진행 후 귀국한다.
이번에 안토니우 구테흐스 유엔 사무총장을 비롯 프랑스·이탈리아·우즈베키스탄·체코·폴란드 정상 등과 양자회담이 예정돼 있는 가운데 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령과의 회담은 없을 것으로 알려졌다.
한편 이 대통령은 지난 19일 용산 대통령실에서 진행돼 21일(현지시간) 공개된 영국 '로이터 통신' 인터뷰에서 "한·미 통화 스와프 없이 미국이 요구하는 방식대로 3500억 달러를 인출해 현금으로 투자한다면 한국은 1997년 외환위기 같은 상황에 직면하게 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
이어 "실무 협상서 제시된 방안들이 상업적 실행 가능성을 담보 못해 간극을 좁히기 어려운 상황"이라며 "혈맹 관계에 있는 동맹국 사이에 최소한 합리성이 유지될 거라 믿고 이 불안정한 상황을 가능한 한 빨리 종식시켜야 한다"고 했다.
또 이날 영국 'BBC' 인터뷰에선 "북한이 매년 15~20기 핵무기를 추가 생산하는 상황에서 동결은 긴급 임시조치로 충분히 실현 가능한 대안"이라며 "장기적 비핵화 목표를 포기 않는다면 북핵·미사일 개발을 멈추게 하는 것만으로도 분명한 이점이 있고, 비현실적 시도를 반복하기보다 현실적 목표를 세워 성과를 내야 한다"고 했다.
