【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스(총장 류완하) 평생교육원이 ‘우리가 만들어가는 지속 가능한 내일: 연결(Connect), 혁신(Innovate), 번영(Prosper)’을 주제로 '2025 경주 APEC 시민대학'을 운영하며 내년 열리는 APEC 정상회의 성공 개최 지원에 나섰다.

시민대학은 지난 3월 27일 1회차 강의를 시작으로 9월 12일까지 총 15회차를 마쳤으며, 오는 10월 24일까지 총 20회차 운영을 목표로 한다. 이번 프로그램은 경상북도와 경주시가 주최하고 동국대 WISE캠퍼스가 위탁 운영하며, 시민들의 국제회의 참여 의식을 높이고 글로벌 시민 역량을 강화하기 위해 기획됐다.
주요 교육 내용은 ▲APEC 정상회의의 의미와 시민 참여 방법 ▲글로벌 에티켓 및 기초 외국어 교육 ▲국제교류에 필요한 태도와 소양 함양 등이다. 이를 통해 지역민이 세계적인 국제행사에 능동적으로 참여할 수 있도록 돕는다.
특히 회차별 200명 이상, 총 4,000명 이상의 시민이 교육에 참여하는 것을 목표로 하고 있으며, 직능단체와 일반 시민을 대상으로 폭넓게 운영된다. 지난 9월 19일에는 경주시 체육회와 종목단체협의회를 대상으로 한 강의로 16회차를 마쳤으며, 이후 17회차부터는 북경주를 시작으로 동·서·남·북 권역별 ‘찾아가는 시민대학’으로 확대 운영된다.
이영찬 평생교육원장은 “동국대 WISE캠퍼스는 ‘미래 비전을 선도하는 글로컬 인재 양성 대학’이라는 비전 아래 시민대학을 통해 2025 경주 APEC 정상회의의 성공적 개최를 뒷받침하고 있다”며 “APEC 이후에도 지역사회와 함께 시민들의 글로벌 소양을 키워가는 지속 가능한 기반을 마련해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus (President Ryu Wan-ha) Lifelong Education Center is supporting the successful hosting of next year's APEC Summit by operating the '2025 Gyeongju APEC Citizen University' under the theme, "Creating a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper."
The Citizen University, which began with its first lecture on March 27, completed 15 sessions as of September 12 and aims to run a total of 20 sessions by October 24. Hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and Gyeongju City and operated by Dongguk University WISE Campus, this program aims to raise awareness of citizens' participation in international conferences and strengthen their global citizen capacity.
Key educational topics include: ▲the meaning of the APEC Summit and how to participate as citizens; ▲global etiquette and basic foreign language education; ▲cultivating the attitudes and skills necessary for international exchange. This program aims to empower local residents to actively participate in global events.
The program aims to reach over 4,000 citizens, with over 200 participants per session. The program is offered broadly to both professional organizations and the general public. The 16th session concluded on September 19th with lectures for the Gyeongju City Sports Council and the Sports Association Council. Starting with the 17th session, the program will expand to include "Visiting Citizens' University" programs in the East, West, South, and North regions, starting with Beijing Gyeongju.
Lee Young-chan, director of the Lifelong Education Center, said, “Dongguk University WISE Campus is supporting the successful hosting of the 2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit through the Citizens’ University under the vision of ‘a university that fosters global talent leading the future vision.’” He added, “Even after APEC, we will continue to establish a sustainable foundation to cultivate citizens’ global literacy together with the local community.”
