충남 서천군은 문화체육관광부와 예술경영지원센터가 주관하는 ‘2025 공연예술 지역유통 지원사업’의 일환으로 어린이 연극 '강아지똥'을 오는 10월 17일 서천문예의전당 대강당에서 선보인다고 22일 밝혔다. 이번 공연은 오전과 오후 각 1회씩, 총 2차례에 걸쳐 진행된다.
연극 <강아지똥>은 권정생 작가의 동명 그림책을 원작으로 한다. 1969년 아동문학상을 수상하고 초등 교과서에도 실린 이 작품은 버려진 강아지똥이 민들레의 거름이 되어 생명을 틔워내는 과정을 통해 “세상에 쓸모없는 존재는 없다”는 메시지를 담고 있다. 극단 ‘모시는사람들’이 이를 무대화해 2001년 첫 선을 보였으며, 이후 20년 넘게 국내외 무대에서 공연을 이어오며 꾸준히 사랑받아왔다.
