충남 서산시가 해미읍성전통시장 인근에 임시 공영주차장을 조성하며 주민과 상인들의 숙원을 해결했다. 시장 이용객의 주차 불편 해소와 함께 관광객 편의 증진을 통한 지역경제 활성화가 기대된다.
서산시는 해미면 읍내리 211번지 일원에 60면 규모의 임시 공영주차장을 마련했다고 24일 밝혔다. 지난 2019년 관광형 테마시장으로 새롭게 조성된 해미읍성전통시장은 꾸준히 관광객이 늘어났지만 주차 공간 부족으로 이용객 불편이 지속 제기돼 왔다. 이번 주차장 조성으로 이러한 문제가 상당 부분 해소될 전망이다.
이번 사업은 해당 부지 소유 주민들과의 적극적인 소통과 협력 속에 추진돼 당초 계획보다 6개월 앞선 지난 9월 22일 조성이 완료됐다. 시는 주민들의 지원이 사업 조기 준공에 큰 역할을 했다고 설명했다.
이완섭 서산시장은 23일 현장을 방문해 조성된 임시 주차장을 둘러보며 보완 사항과 향후 개선점을 논의했다.
서산시는 이번 임시 공영주차장이 해미읍성전통시장 활성화뿐 아니라 서산해미읍성을 찾는 관광객의 접근성과 편의를 크게 높일 것으로 기대하고 있다.
한편 이번에 마련된 주차장은 혼합골재 방식으로 임시 조성되었으며, 내년 초 아스콘 포장과 주차관제 설비가 추가로 설치될 예정이다.
