[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시와 부산비엔날레조직위원회(집행위원장 이준)는 '2025 바다미술제'를 27일부터 11월 2일까지 37일간 개최한다. 이번 미술제는 2019년 이후 6년 만에 다대포해수욕장으로 돌아와 전시한다.
다대포 해변을 전시장 삼아 '물 위를 걷는 물결들' 주제 탐구
1987년 시작된 바다미술제는 전 세계적으로도 희귀하게 바다라는 열린 공간을 전시장으로 활용하는 독창적인 예술 축제다.
이번 전시 주제인 《언더커런츠(Undercurrents): 물 위를 걷는 물결들》은 보이지 않거나 소외된 존재들과의 관계를 탐색하고, 수면 아래의 흐름과 생태적 리듬을 탐구함으로써 공존과 생존의 의미를 되새긴다는 철학적 메시지를 담고 있다.
다대포 일대 유휴공간까지 활용한 입체적 전시 공간
6년 만에 다대포로 귀환한 미술제는 다대포해수욕장, 고우니 생태길, 몰운대 해안산책로뿐만 아니라, (구)다대소각장과 (구)몰운커피숍 등 비어 있던 공간을 예술적으로 재활용하여 전시장으로 탈바꿈시켰다.
다대포해수욕장은 강과 바다가 만나는 유동적인 경계에서 다성적인 서사를 풀어내는 주요 무대가 된다.
고우니 생태길은 관람객이 자연과의 관계를 성찰하고 일상 속에서 예술적 실천을 이어가도록 유도하는 성찰의 공간으로 조성되었다.
몰운대 해안산책로는 다대포의 전통 노동요인 '후리소리'와 수중 사운드를 활용한 작품을 통해 인간과 자연의 경계에서 사색하는 경험을 제공한다.
구)다대소각장은 과거, 현재, 미래를 체험하며 기후 위기에 대한 경각심과 공동 연대의 메시지를 촉구하는 공간으로 재탄생했다.
구)몰운커피숍은 시민의 추억이 담긴 공간에서 감각적인 작품을 선보이며, 관람객들이 자유롭게 교류하는 휴식과 교감의 장소로 활용된다.

17개국 38명 참여, 연대와 공존의 방식 제시
전시는 김금화 감독과 베르나 피나(Bernard Vienat) 감독이 공동 기획했으며, 17개국 23작가 38명이 참여하여 총 46점의 작품을 선보인다.
참여 작가들은 저항과 흔적, 회복이 공존하는 다대포의 풍경을 다양한 예술 언어로 그려내고, 시민 참여 작업 및 커뮤니티 중심의 협업을 통해 연대와 공존의 방식을 제안한다.
주요 참여 작가로는 국내의 김상돈, 이진, 조형섭 작가와 오미자(팀), 그리고 제1회 신진 작가 아트쇼 최종 우승팀인 ‘프로젝트 유영’의 최원교 작가가 있다. 국외에서는 플라스티크 판타스티크(Plastique Fantastique), 라울 발히(Raul Walch), 세바 칼푸케오(Seba Calfuqueo), 비론 에롤 베르트(Viron Erol Vert) 등 다양한 세계적 작가들이 함께한다.
오감을 만족시키는 풍성한 연계 프로그램 진행
전시 기간 동안에는 어린이 워크숍, 작품 연계 워크숍, 토론과 대화, 퍼포먼스 등 오감을 만족시킬 다채로운 연계 프로그램이 마련되었다.
'스노클링, 카펫 만들기, 페인팅, 씨앗 굴리기 대회' 등 체험형 시민 참여 프로그램이 진행되며, 부산 지역 60세 이상 여성들과 함께하는 ‘실버 붐’ 등의 참여 작가 퍼포먼스 행사와 더불어 세계적인 인류세 석학들의 강연 등 학제 간 교류 행사도 풍성하게 이어진다.
전시는 무료로 관람할 수 있다. 참여 프로그램은 전시 기간 중 여러 차례 진행되며, 일부는 사전 신청이 필요하다. 자세한 내용과 일정은 바다미술제 공식 누리집(saf2025.org/ko)에서 확인 가능하다.

Exploring the Theme 'Undercurrents: Waves Walking on Water' at Dadaepo Beach
The Sea Art Festival, which began in 1987, is a rare and original art event worldwide for using the open space of the sea as its exhibition venue.
The exhibition's theme, 《Undercurrents: Waves Walking on Water》, conveys a philosophical message of re-examining the meaning of coexistence and survival by exploring relationships with invisible or marginalized entities and investigating the flows and ecological rhythms beneath the surface of the water.
Three-Dimensional Exhibition Space Utilizing Dadaepo's Old and Abandoned Sites
Returning to Dadaepo after six years, the festival will not only utilize Dadaepo Beach, Go-uni Ecological Trail, and Molundae Coastal Walk but will also transform previously vacant spaces, such as the (Former) Dadaepo Incinerator and (Former) Molun Coffee Shop, into artistic exhibition halls.
Dadaepo Beach will serve as the main stage, unfolding a polyphonic narrative at the fluid boundary where the river meets the sea.
The Go-uni Ecological Trail is designed as a space for reflection, encouraging visitors to contemplate their relationship with nature and continue artistic practice in daily life.
The Molundae Coastal Walk offers an experience of contemplation at the boundary between humans and nature through works utilizing 'Hurisori'—a traditional Dadaepo labor song—and underwater sounds.
The (Former) Dadaepo Incinerator will be reborn as a space for experiencing its past, present, and future, urging vigilance against the climate crisis and advocating for communal solidarity.
The (Former) Molun Coffee Shop will become a place for rest and exchange, presenting sensory artworks in a nostalgic spot that served as a citizen's retreat.
38 Participants from 17 Countries Present Modes of Solidarity and Coexistence
The exhibition is co-curated by Directors Kim Kum-hwa and Bernard Vienat. 38 artists from 23 teams across 17 countries are participating, showcasing a total of 46 artworks.
The participating artists will use diverse artistic languages to depict the past, present, and future landscape of Dadaepo—a place where resistance, traces, and recovery coexist—proposing modes of solidarity and coexistence through citizen participation and community-focused collaboration.
Key domestic artists include Kim Sang-don, Lee Jin, Cho Hyung-sup, OMIJA (team), and Choi Won-gyo of 'Project Yu-yeong', the final winner of the 1st New Artist Art Show. International participants include various global artists such as Plastique Fantastique, Raul Walch, Seba Calfuqueo, and Viron Erol Vert.
Rich Ancillary Programs to Engage All the Senses
During the festival, a variety of related programs designed to satisfy all five senses will be offered, including children's workshops, artwork-related workshops, discussions and talks, and performances.
Experiential citizen participation programs such as 'Snorkeling, Carpet Making, Painting, and Seed Rolling Contest' will take place. Additionally, performance events by participating artists, such as 'Silver Boom' with women aged 60 and over from the Busan area, and interdisciplinary exchange events including lectures by world-renowned Anthropocene scholars, will be held.
Admission to the exhibition is free. The participatory programs will run multiple times during the festival period, with some requiring pre-registration. Detailed information and schedules are available on the Sea Art Festival website (saf2025.org/ko).
Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, "Through this Sea Art Festival, we plan to highlight both the charm of Dadaepo and the status of Busan as an international cultural city." He added that the city will not spare any support to ensure the Sea Art Festival establishes itself as a world-class exhibition representing not just Busan but Korea.
