도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령과 베냐민 네타냐후 이스라엘 총리가 29일(현지시간) 트럼프 대통령의 '가자 지구 평화 구상' 실행안에 합의한 가운데 향후 하마스 동의 여부만 남아 주목된다.
영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 워싱톤 DC 백악관에서 네타냐후 총리와 정상회담을 마친 후 공동 기자회견에서 "최소한 우리는 (전쟁 종식에) 매우 매우 가까워졌다"며 "우리가 매우 가까워진 수준을 넘어섰다 본다"며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "(중동) 지역 친구·파트너들과의 광범위한 협의 끝에 공식적으로 우리 평화 원칙을 발표한다"며 "이 계획에 동의해준 네타냐후 총리에 감사하다"고 했다.
이어 "하마스가 수락하면 내 제안은 모든 인질들을 즉각 석방하되 72시간을 넘기지 않도록 하고 있다"며 "따라서 인질들은 돌아올 것이며 이는 전쟁의 즉각적 종식을 의미하고, 나는 하마스도 합의하고 싶어 한다 듣고 있으며 이는 좋은 일"이라고 했다.
