브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 명절마다 반복되는 고속도로 정체와 사고에 대해 한국도로공사가 근본적 대책 없이 땜질식 대응만 하고 있다는 지적이 제기됐다.
국회 국토교통위원회 소속 정점식 국민의힘 의원이 한국도로공사로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면, 지난해 추석 연휴(2023.9.13.~18) 6일간 서해안고속도로 서울방향 일직JCT~금천IC 구간은 총 50시간 정체가 발생해 전국 고속도로 구간 중 최장 정체 시간을 기록했다.
같은 기간 ▲서평택IC~포승JCT 구간(47시간), ▲당진IC~송악IC 구간(41시간) 역시 정체 상위권에 올랐다.
올해 설 연휴(2024.1.24.~2.2)에도 일직JCT~금천IC 구간은 43시간 정체가 발생하는 등 상습 정체 구간임이 다시 확인됐다.
사고 발생도 심각하다. 2023년 한 해 동안 고속도로 사고 367건 가운데 130건(35.4%)이 경부고속도로에서 집중 발생했다.
서울방향 용인 수지~성남 분당 일대(부산 요금소 기준 400~410㎞)에서만 34건, 충북 옥천~대전 대덕구 일대(360~370㎞)에서 18건이 발생했다.
2022년에도 경부고속도로에서 전체 사고 615건 중 244건이 발생했으며, 같은 구간(용인 수지~성남 분당)에서만 60건이 집계돼 ‘사고 다발 구간’으로 지목된 바 있다.
이에 대해 정점식 의원은 “사고가 끊임없이 반복되는 특정 구간에 대해 도로공사가 여전히 땜질식 대응만 하고 있는 것은 심각한 직무유기”라며 “노면 관리 하자와 시설물 관리 부실이 원인인 사고에도 공사가 소극적으로 대처하는 것은 국민 안전을 외면하는 행태”라고 비판했다.
이어 “국민 생명과 직결된 사안인 만큼 도로공사는 철저한 원인 분석과 근본적 대책 마련에 나서야 한다”며 “상습 정체 구간 역시 실효적이고 지속가능한 해결책을 마련해 국민 불편을 해소해야 한다”고 강조했다.

According to data submitted by KEC to Rep. Jeong Jeom-sik of the People Power Party, a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, the Iljik JCT-Geumcheon IC section of the West Coast Expressway heading to Seoul experienced a total of 50 hours of congestion during the six-day Chuseok holiday (September 13-18, 2023), the longest congestion period of any expressway in Korea.
During the same period, the Seopyeongtaek IC-Poseung JCT section (47 hours) and the Dangjin IC-Songak IC section (41 hours) also ranked among the most congested sections.
During this year's Lunar New Year holiday (January 24-February 2, 2024), the Iljik JCT-Geumcheon IC section experienced 43 hours of congestion, confirming its chronic congestion status.
Accidents are also a serious problem. Of the 367 highway accidents in 2023, 130 (35.4%) occurred on the Gyeongbu Expressway.
34 accidents occurred between Yongin Suji and Seongnam Bundang (400-410 km from the Busan toll gate) in the Seoul area, and 18 occurred between Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, and Daejeon Daedeok District (360-370 km).

He added, "The Corporation's passive response to accidents caused by poor road surface management and facility maintenance is a sign of disregard for public safety."
He continued, "As this issue directly affects the lives of citizens, the Korea Expressway Corporation must conduct a thorough root cause analysis and develop fundamental measures. They must also develop effective and sustainable solutions for chronically congested sections to alleviate public inconvenience."
