경북소방본부에 따르면 지난 6일 오후 12시 20분쯤 포항시 북구 죽장면의 한 단독주택에서 불이 났다. 소방당국은 50여 분 만에 화재를 진화했다. 주택 약 20평이 전소돼 1465만 원의 재산피해가 났다. 인명피해는 없었다. 경찰과 소방당국은 정확한 화재 원인을 조사 중이다.

앞서 포항 해안가에서는 70대 여성이 바다에 빠져 구조됐으나 끝내 숨졌다. 울진군 죽변면 도로에서는 SUV 차량 두 대가 정면 충돌해 운전자 2명이 다쳐 병원으로 이송됐다. 경찰은 졸음운전이나 과속 등 인적 요인을 중심으로 사고 경위를 조사 중이다.
경주시 충효동 옥녀봉 인근에서는 등산 중이던 60대 남성이 하산 도중 미끄러져 발목이 골절됐고, 상주시 성동동에서는 70대 남성이 정화조에 빠져 숨졌다. 8일 새벽 5시 43분께 상주시 성동동에서는 70대 남성이 1.5m 깊이의 정화조에 빠진 것을 보호자가 발견해 신고했다. 구조대가 현장에 도착했지만, 이미 숨진 상태였다. 경찰은 질식사로 추정하고 있다.

포항북부소방서 관계자는 “연휴 기간 벌쏘임, 예초기 사고, 낙상 등 생활안전사고 신고가 평소보다 30% 이상 늘었다”며 “명절 기간 방심이 큰 사고로 이어질 수 있는 만큼 각별한 주의가 필요하다”고 말했다.
