【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시가 오는 11월 예정된 지열발전 부지 심부지진계 재설치를 앞두고 주민들을 대상으로 한 설명회를 연다고 10일 밝혔다. 지진 안전관리에 대한 시민들의 궁금증을 해소하고, 재설치 과정의 투명성을 높이기 위한 자리다.
이번 설명회는 한국에너지기술평가원(전담기관)과 ㈜희송지오텍(주관기관)이 주관하며, 흥해읍과 장량동 이·통장협의회 회의 전에 각각 열린다.
흥해읍 설명회는 오는 15일 오전 10시 30분, 흥해읍행정복지센터 대회의실에서, 장량동 설명회는 20일 오전 10시, 장량동행정복지센터 대회의실에서 진행된다. 관심 있는 시민 누구나 참석할 수 있다.
지열발전부지 안전관리사업은 포항지진을 촉발한 지열발전 부지의 안전성을 확보하기 위한 사업으로, 부지 내에 심부지진계와 지하수위 관측장비 각 3기, 지표지진계 1기, 인근 지역에는 지표지진계 20기와 지표변형 관측소 3곳이 설치돼 지속적인 모니터링이 이뤄져 왔다.
그러나 지난 2023년 심부지진계가 정상 작동하지 않으면서 주민 불안감이 커졌다. 전문가와 주민 의견을 수렴해 고장 원인 규명과 재설치를 위해 지진계를 인양했으며, 현재는 지표지진계와 지하수위 관측 장비만 운영 중이다.
흥해읍과 장량동 일대 주민들은 “지진 발생 원인과 지열발전의 영향에 대한 불안이 완전히 가시지 않았다”며 “재설치 과정 전반이 공개되고, 안전 관리가 투명하게 이루어져야 한다”고 입을 모았다.
포항시 관계자는 “이번 설명회는 시민들에게 지진 안전관리 사업 전반을 알리고 재설치 계획을 투명하게 공개하기 위한 자리”라며 “시민들의 적극적인 참여를 바란다”고 말했다.
한편 산업통상자원부와 한국에너지기술평가원은 포항 지진안전종합센터 구축사업을 추진 중이며, 향후 대응체계를 강화하고 안전 모니터링을 체계화할 계획이다.

The geothermal power plant site safety management project aims to ensure the safety of the geothermal power plant site that triggered the Pohang earthquake.
