【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=경북교육청이 오는 14일 포항시 북구 옛 경북과학고 부지에 수학문화관 문을 연다.
수학문화관은 학생과 일반인이 일상에서 수학의 가치를 발견하고 즐길 수 있도록 만든 체험 공간이다. '모든 것은 수학이다'를 주제로 직접 보고 만지며 수학을 경험할 수 있다. 디지털 기술과 상호작용하며 수학 원리를 스스로 탐구할 수 있는 점이 특징이다.
1층은 학생과 교사, 학부모를 위한 교육 공간이다. 2층부터 4층까지는 놀이와 산업, 역사, 코딩, 인공지능, 예술, 기하 등 다양한 주제의 전시 체험 공간으로 꾸몄다.
2층은 유아를 위한 놀이형 수학 공간이다. 과일꼬치 만들기로 숫자를 배우고, 마트 놀이로 물건을 사고팔며 돈 계산을 익힌다. 블록 쌓기를 하면서 도형 원리도 자연스럽게 이해할 수 있다.
3층에서는 디지털 콘텐츠로 수학을 재미있게 경험한다. 땅따먹기 게임으로 공간 지각력과 넓이 개념을 배우고, 낚시 게임으로 사칙연산을 익힌다. 인공지능과 오목 대결은 난이도가 다양해 모든 연령대가 즐길 수 있다.
4층은 수학의 깊이 있는 세계를 만나는 곳이다. 삼국시대부터 조선시대까지 역사 속 수학자들의 업적을 이야기와 영상으로 소개한다. 피타고라스와 아르키메데스, 뉴턴 등 서양 수학자들의 발견도 함께 다뤄 동서양 수학 발전을 폭넓게 이해할 수 있다.
임종식 교육감은 "수학문화관을 단순한 전시 공간이 아닌 모두가 함께 성장하는 수학 문화의 거점으로 만들겠다"며 "체험 중심 수학교육으로 수학 대중화를 이끌고, 학생들의 논리적 사고력과 문제해결력 등 미래 핵심역량을 키우는 데 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.

The fourth floor delves into the profound world of mathematics. It showcases the achievements of mathematicians throughout history, from the Three Kingdoms period to the Joseon Dynasty, through stories and videos. Discoveries by Western mathematicians like Pythagoras, Archimedes, and Newton are also featured, providing a broader understanding of the development of mathematics in both the East and the West.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik stated, "We will transform the Mathematical Culture Center into a hub for a culture of mathematics where everyone can thrive, not just an exhibition space. We will strive to popularize mathematics through hands-on learning and cultivate students' logical thinking and problem-solving skills, key future competencies."
