이번 행사는 최근 수산물 가격 상승으로 어려움을 겪는 군민들의 부담을 덜고, 소비 활성화를 통해 전통시장에 활력을 불어넣기 위해 마련됐다. 행사 기간 동안 3만4천 원 이상 구매 시 결제 금액의 최대 30%를 온누리상품권으로 환급받을 수 있어 군민들의 참여 열기가 높았다.
행사 결과, 영덕읍시장에서 7,372장, 영해만세시장에서 2,025장의 상품권이 발급돼 총 9,397장, 약 3억2천만 원 규모의 수산물 판매 촉진 효과를 거둔 것으로 나타났다.
이번 사업은 해양수산부가 사업계획 수립과 전반적 관리를 맡았으며, 경상북도는 부정수급 점검과 안전관리, 방사능 검사를 담당했다. 또한 (사)한국수산회가 정산 및 환급을 지원하고, 영덕군과 지역 상인회가 현장 운영과 홍보를 담당해 지자체-유관기관-지역상권이 함께 만든 협력형 지역경제 활성화 모델로 평가받고 있다.
