세종시의회가 담배 제조사의 법적·사회적 책임 이행을 촉구하는 결의안을 채택했다.
세종시의회는 13일 제101회 임시회 제1차 본회의에서 임채성 의원이 대표발의한 '담배 제조물 결함 인정 및 사회적 책임 촉구 결의안'을 채택하고, 담배 제조사의 법적·사회적 책임 이행을 촉구했다.
이 결의안에는 “담배 제조물의 결함과 기업의 책임을 명확하고 국민의 생명과 건강을 보호하기 위한 제도적 기반을 강화하는 내용을 담았다.
임채성 의원은 “ “국민건강보험공단이 제기한 담배회사 손해배상 소송은 담배의 위해성과 제조물 결함을 법적으로 명확히 하고, 국민의 생명을 보호하며, 기업의 사회적 책임을 확립하고자 하는 중대한 의미가 있다”며, ”이번 결의를 통해 그 취지를 함께 하고자 한다”고 덧붙였다.
또, 국회가 제정한 '담배의 유해성 관리에 관한 법률'과 '국민건강증진법', '제조물책임법'의 취지를 언급하며, “정부와 관계 기관은 국민의 건강권 보호를 위해 금연 환경을 강화하고, 흡연 예방과 피해 감소를 위한 실효성 있는 제도를 조속히 시행해야 한다”고 촉구했다.
한편, 세종시의회는 지난해 8월 제91회 임시회 제1차 본회의에서 ‘국민건강보험공단 특별사법경찰 도입 촉구 결의안’을 채택하는 등 국민 건강 안전망을 정비해 의료 서비스의 안정성을 확보하기 위한 노력을 이어오고 있다.
