【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코그룹 장인화 회장이 지난 12일(현지시간) 미국 워싱턴 D.C.에서 열린 세계철강협회 총회에 참석해 세계 철강업계를 이끄는 글로벌 리더들과 업계 주요 현안에 대해 논의하고 구성원 모두가 안전 혁신의 주체가 되는 선진 안전 문화 정착의 중요성을 강조했다.
이번 총회에는 포스코그룹, 타타스틸, 일본제철 등 글로벌 철강 대표기업 CEO 들이 대거 참석했다.
한국 철강업계를 대표해 세계철강협회 집행위원회 회의에 참석한 장 회장은 주요 철강사 대표들과 ▲세계철강협회 안전보건방침 ▲기후대응 전략 및 탈탄소 전환 ▲탄소 배출량 할당 방식의 국제 표준화 ▲알루미늄에 대응하는 차세대 철강 차체 솔루션 개발 등에 관한 협회 활동 성과를 공유하고 발전 방향을 모색했다.
특히, 장 회장은 안전한 일터를 만들기 위해서는 잠재 위험을 근본적으로 제거하고 협력사를 포함한 현장 직원 모두가 재해 예방의 주체가 되어야 한다고 강조하며, AI 기술과 접목한 스마트 안전체계 구축 등 K-Safety의 모범사례를 만들어 확산하는데 앞장서겠다고 말했다.
포스코는 다음 날(13일) 열린 회원사 회의에서 안전보건 우수사례 공모전 우수기업에 선정됐다. 안전보건 우수사례 공모전은 세계철강협회가 매년 회원사의 안전 우수활동 사례를 공모 받아 시상하는 제도로, 포스코는 올해 ‘고로 풍구 영상 기반의 AI 스마트 기술’로 공정안전 부문 최고상을 받았다.
포스코가 독자 개발한 ‘고로 풍구 영상 기반 AI 스마트 기술’은 고로(용광로) 내부의 용융물과 접촉하는 설비인 ‘풍구’에 영상 AI 및 처리 기술을 적용하여 설비 이상 상태를 자동 판별하고 이상 상황을 작업자에게 신속히 안내하여 설비 파손 위험을 예방하고 안전한 작업 현장 만들기에 기여한 점을 높이 평가받았다.
한편 장 회장은 세계철강협회 총회 기간 동안 호주, 유럽, 일본 등 각 지역을 대표하는 글로벌 유수의 철강사 CEO들과 잇달아 회동하며 한국 철강산업을 둘러싼 불확실성을 극복하고 비즈니스 기회를 모색하는 적극적인 글로벌 경영활동을 펼쳤다.
