도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 15일(현지시간) 상호 관세 무역 협상 관련해 "한국은 3500억불(약 497조 7000억)을 선불로, 일본은 6500억불(약 924조)에 합의했다”고 밝혔다. 지난달에 이어 이미 선행된 한국과의 대미 투자금 합의 사안을 거듭 확인해 준 것이다.
영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 워싱톤 DC 백악관에서 열린 기자회견에서 "일본·한국 모두 서명했다"며 이같이 밝혔다. 일본이 합의한 대미 투자금 규모는 5500억불이다.
이어 “관세는 우리 국가안보에 매우 중요하며 관세가 없다면 국가안보도 없다"며 "그만큼 나라가 심각한 타격을 입게 될 것”이라고 했다.
그러면서 “다른 나라들은 미국에 관세를 아주 강하게 적용하고 있는데 예컨대 EU(유럽연합)는 우리 자동차도 농산물도 어떤 것도 받아들이지 않는다"며 "그들은 관세를 이용해 우리 제품을 막아왔으나 우리는 그렇게 하지 않았고 나는 그래서 관세를 사용한 것”이라고 덧붙였다
앞서 지난 9월 25일 트럼프 대통령은 "일본에선 5500억불, 한국에겐 3500억불을 받는다"며 "이건 선불”이라고 언급한 바 있다.
현재 한국은 미국과 3500억불의 대미 투자금 집행 방식을 둘러싼 이견을 조율 중인 가운데 이미 무역 합의 내용을 명문화한 일본·유럽연합(EU) 대비 많게는 10%포인트 이상 높은 자동차 품목별 관세가 부과되면서 대미 수출 전선에 적신호가 켜진 상태다.
트럼프 대통령은 "인도가 (러시아산) 석유를 사는 게 불만이었다"며 "그(나렌드라 모디 총리)는 오늘 러시아에서 석유를 사지 않을 거라고 나에게 확언했으며 즉시 할 순 없고, 약간의 절차가 필요하지만 그 절차는 곧 끝날 것"이라고 전했다.
이어 "그건 큰 차단"이라며 "이제 나는 중국도 같은 일을 하게 해야 한다"고 덧붙였다.
트럼프 행정부는 그간 중국·인도가 러시아산 석유를 수입하면서 러시아에 우크라이나와의 전쟁에 필요한 자금을 공급하고 있다고 비판해온 가운데 트럼프 대통령은 인도가 러시아산 석유를 구입한다는 이유로 인도에 대한 관세를 50%로 대폭 올린 바 있다.
그러면서 마약 운반선으로 지목된 베네수엘라 선박의 잇따른 격침 사안 관련해선 "우리는 (마약이) 해상으로 들어오는 걸 거의 완전히 막았고, 이제 육로를 막을 것"이라며 "우리는 분명히 지금 육상(타격)을 검토하고 있다"고 전했다.
또 미군의 베네수엘라 선박 격침이 국제법 위반이란 비판에 대해 "(선박 격침이) 거친 방법이지만 (선원) 3명을 잃고 (마약중독으로 사망할 수 있는 미국인) 2만 5천명을 구할 수 있다"며 "그자들(베네수엘라)은 (마약으로) 우리 국민을 죽이고 있는 자들"이라고 비판했다.

He continued, "That's a huge blockage," adding, "Now I have to get China to do the same."
The Trump administration has been criticizing China and India for importing Russian oil and funding Russia's war in Ukraine. President Trump has sharply raised tariffs on India to 50% for purchasing Russian oil.
Regarding the series of sinkings of Venezuelan ships suspected of being drug transporters, he said, "We've almost completely stopped the maritime trafficking, and now we're going to stop the land route. We're definitely considering land-based attacks right now."
He also criticized the US military's sinking of a Venezuelan ship as a violation of international law, saying, "It was a rough method, but we lost three sailors and saved 25,000 Americans who could die from drug overdose." He added, "They (Venezuela) are the ones who are killing our people (with drugs)."
