우리복지시민연합은 24일 성명을 내고 “졸속 행정으로 시민에게 약속한 정책이 두 번이나 뒤집혔다”며 “모든 책임을 대구의료원에 돌리는 꼬리 자르기를 멈추고, 대구시가 정책 실패의 책임을 분명하게 져야 한다”고 강조했다.
TBC의 보도에 따르면, 대구시는 2025년 상반기 통합난임치료센터 개소를 목표로 지난해 12월 동산의료원 교수까지 초빙했지만, 10개월째 개소가 미뤄지고 있다. 특히 지난 4월 실시된 대구의료원 종합감사 과정에서 의료진이 줄줄이 병원을 떠났다는 사실이 드러났으나, 대구시는 책임이 없다는 입장을 내놓아 논란을 키웠다.
앞서 생명존중센터 위기관리병동은 2022년 7월 ‘지역 정신건강 응급 컨트롤타워’ 역할을 맡으며 문을 열었으나, 2024년 2월 결국 폐쇄됐다. 당시 홍준표 전 시장이 약속했던 운영 재개도 끝내 이뤄지지 않았다. 이후 대구시는 13억 원의 예산을 들여 통합난임치료센터 설치 계획을 야심 차게 발표했지만, 의료진 확보에 실패하며 또다시 난관에 부딪힌 것이다.
우리복지시민연합은 “위기관리병동 운영 중단의 해명조차 제대로 못한 상황에서 같은 논리가 이번 센터에도 적용되고 있다”며 “대구시의 오락가락 행정 탓에 시민 신뢰가 무너지고, 정책 실패가 되풀이되고 있다”고 지적했다.
대구시가 OECD 국가 중 자살률 1위를 기록하며 하루 평균 2명의 시민이 안타까운 선택을 하는 현실 속에서, 생명존중센터 폐쇄와 통합난임치료센터 좌초는 시민 건강권을 위협하고 있다는 비판이 거세다.
우리복지시민연합은 이번 사태와 관련해 “반복되는 정책 실패는 대구시의 무책임하고 무능한 행정에서 비롯됐다”면서, “재감사를 통해 책임자를 엄중 문책하고, 시민 앞에 명확히 입장을 밝히라”고 촉구했다.

Given that Daegu City ranks first among OECD countries in terms of suicide rate, with an average of two citizens taking their own lives every day, the closure of the Life Respect Center and the failure of the integrated infertility treatment center are being strongly criticized as threatening citizens' right to health.
Regarding this incident, the Citizens' Coalition for Welfare stated, "The repeated policy failures stem from the irresponsible and incompetent administration of Daegu City," and urged, "Through a re-audit, hold those responsible strictly accountable and clearly state their position to the citizens."
