브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정청래 더불어민주당 대표가 27일 "외교 슈퍼 위크인 이번 주만이라도 여야가 정쟁을 멈추고, 2025 경주 APEC(아시아태평양경제협력체) 정상회의의 성공을 위해 힘을 모으자"고 제안했다.
정 대표는 이날 오전 국회에서 열린 최고위원회의에서 “역사적인 경주 APEC 성공을 위해 모든 국가적 역량을 집중할 때이다. 외교의 최종 목표가 국익인 만큼 여야가 따로 있을 수 없다. 전 세계인 앞에서 우리끼리 싸우지 말자”며 이같이 밝혔다.
그는 “2002년 월드컵 당시 야당이던 서청원 한나라당 대표가 무정쟁을 합의했고, 1998년 IMF 위기 때도 국회의장 주도로 무정쟁이 선언된 바 있다”며 “1988년 서울올림픽 때 김대중 전 대통령 등 야권 지도자들이 정쟁을 멈추고 대한민국의 성공을 위해 협력했던 전례를 이번 주에 다시 재현하길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
이어 정 대표는 “저부터 솔선수범하겠다”며 “해야 할 말이 많지만 이번 주만큼은 불가피한 정책 발언 외에는 정쟁적 발언을 삼가겠다. 야당도 국익과 대한민국의 성공을 위해 조심하고 양보하는 미덕을 보여주길 바란다”고 강조했다.
그는 또 “대한민국은 수출로 먹고사는 나라로, 대외 의존도가 높다. 외교는 곧 국운을 좌우한다”며 “경주 APEC 정상회의는 복잡한 국제 정세 속에서 대한민국이 중재자 역할을 수행하며 외교력을 발휘할 중요한 계기가 될 것”이라고 말했다.
정 대표는 “29일부터 천년고도 경주에서 APEC 정상회의와 CEO 서밋이 열린다”며 “미국, 중국, 일본 등 21개 회원국 정상과 함께 젠슨 황 엔비디아 CEO 등 글로벌 기업 리더 1700여 명이 총출동해 우리 기업과 협력 방안을 논의할 예정”이라고 소개했다.
이어 “29일 트럼프 미국 대통령과의 정상회담을 시작으로, 11월 1일에는 시진핑 중국 국가주석과의 회담이 예정돼 있다”며 “특히 30일에는 트럼프 대통령과 시진핑 주석이 6년 만에 양자 정상회담을 갖는다는 점이 이번 회의의 백미”라고 말했다.
정 대표는 아울러 “중국의 희토류 수출 제한과 미국의 대중 관세 100% 추가 부과를 둘러싼 긴장이 완화되는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “이번 경주 APEC 정상회의가 국가 간 갈등을 풀고 협력을 다지는 변곡점으로 세계사에 기록되길 기대한다”고 했다.
