브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차그룹은 지난 24일 도레이그룹과 전략적 공동 개발 계약(Strategic Joint Development Agreement)을 체결했다고 27일 밝혔다.
이날 체결식은 서울 양재동 현대차그룹 본사 사옥에서 열렸으며, 현대차그룹 GSO(Global Strategy Office)본부장 김흥수 부사장, 기초소재연구센터장 홍승현 상무, 도레이그룹 테라다 미키 복합재료사업본부 부문장, 도레이첨단소재 김영섭 사장 등 양사 관계자들이 참석했다.
앞서 현대차그룹은 지난해 4월 도레이그룹과 모빌리티 성능 향상 및 안전성 확보를 위해 탄소섬유 강화 플라스틱(CFRP) 등 고성능 복합 소재 공동 개발에 대한 포괄적 협력 계약(Master Agreement)을 맺었다.
이후 양사는 긴밀한 협업을 통해 시너지를 극대화할 수 있는 프로젝트를 발굴하고 양사의 역량을 결합한 공동 개발 추진 방안을 구체화했다.
현대차그룹은 양사의 파트너십을 보다 구체화한 이번 계약을 통해 고성능 차량과 달 탐사 전용 로버(Rover), 휴머노이드 로봇을 포함한 특수목적형 모빌리티 등 미래 모빌리티에 적용하기 위한 첨단 소재 및 부품 개발 협력을 강화할 계획이다.
더불어 현대차그룹은 도레이그룹과 고성능 복합재 분야에서 기술 개발뿐 아니라, 생산 및 상용화까지 전 과정에 걸쳐 협력해 미래 모빌리티 산업의 혁신을 가속화하고, 새로운 시장 기회를 창출하는데 주력할 예정이다.
이를 위해 향후 기술 공동 개발 관련 현대차그룹은 R&D본부에서 새로운 차체 재료의 개발과 검증을 담당하는 기초소재연구센터를 중심으로 첨단 소재와 부품의 차량 단위 설계와 함께 적합성 검증과 성능 평가를 주도할 계획이다.
도레이그룹은 도레이 인더스트리(Toray Industries, Inc)에서 공동 개발 창구 역할을 담당하고, 탄소섬유 복합재료를 개발 및 생산하는 △도레이첨단소재 △TAC(Toray Advanced Composites) △EACC(Euro Advanced Carbon Fiber Composites)가 탄소섬유 기술 기반의 중간재 및 성형 제품을 개발한다.
현대차그룹 GSO본부장 김흥수 부사장은 “이번 계약은 지난해 맺은 전략적 파트너십 이후 양사가 본격적으로 협력해 성과를 창출하는 중요한 이정표”라면서 “목표 영역을 명확히 하고 양사의 역량을 결합하여 첨단 복합소재 분야에서 혁신 기술의 연구개발부터 생산, 상용화까지 긴밀히 협력해 시장 대응 역량을 강화해 나갈 것이다”고 말했다.

With this agreement, which further solidifies the partnership between the two companies, Hyundai Motor Group plans to strengthen collaboration on the development of advanced materials and components for future mobility, including high-performance vehicles, lunar exploration rovers, and special-purpose mobility systems including humanoid robots.
Furthermore, Hyundai Motor Group and Toray Group will collaborate across the entire high-performance composites industry, from technological development to production and commercialization. This will accelerate innovation in the future mobility industry and create new market opportunities.
To this end, Hyundai Motor Group plans to lead future joint technology development initiatives, including vehicle-level design of advanced materials and components, along with suitability verification and performance evaluation, centered around the Basic Materials Research Center within its R&D headquarters, which is responsible for the development and verification of new body materials.
Toray Group will serve as a joint development channel through Toray Industries, Inc., while Toray Advanced Materials, TAC (Toray Advanced Composites), and EACC (Euro Advanced Carbon Fiber Composites), which develop and produce carbon fiber composite materials, will develop intermediate materials and molded products based on carbon fiber technology.
