세종시의회‘세종시 친보행자 환경조성을 위한 대중교통 개선 연구모임’(대표의원 최원석)이 10월 24일 의회청사 의정실에서 연구용역 최종보고회를 앞두고 연구결과 전반을 점검하며 의견을 조율하는 간담회를 개최 했다고 27일 밝혔다.
이날 간담회에는 대표의원인 최원석 의원을 비롯해 김현미 의원 등 연구모임 소속 시의원들이 참석했으며, 용역 수행기관인 고려대학교 세종산학협력단으로부터 ‘세종시 정류장 보행환경 개선방안 수립 연구용역’의 주요 내용과 진행 경과를 청취했다.
회의에서는 세종시 주요 정류장 주변의 보행로, 교통시설, 안전 표지 설치 등 개선이 필요한 요소들을 중심으로 실효성 있는 정책 대안을 마련하기 위한 논의가 집중적으로 이뤄졌다.
특히 AI 분석기법을 활용해 세종시 BRT 정류장 인근 보행 패턴 데이터를 구체적으로 확보한 점이 이번 연구의 핵심 성과로 꼽혔다.
최원석 의원은 “그동안 네 차례의 간담회와 두 차례 현장방문을 통해 다양한 해결책을 모색해 왔다”며 “이번 연구를 통해 얻은 AI 기반 보행 패턴 자료는 향후 교통정책 수립이나 예산 심의 시 중요한 기초자료로 활용될 것”이라고 설명했다.
그는 또 “세종시 BRT는 정시성과 효율성 측면에서 우수하지만, 보행 안전은 여전히 보완이 필요한 분야”라며 “이용객 증가에 선제적으로 대응해 시민이 안심하고 이동할 수 있는 도로 환경을 만들어가야 한다”고 덧붙였다.
또한 최 의원은 “오늘 제시된 의견들을 연구용역 최종보고서에 충실히 반영해 안전하고 쾌적한 보행환경 조성을 위한 정책 기반으로 활용하겠다”고 밝혔다.
김현미 의원은 “정류장 주변 교통사고를 예방하려면 신호체계와 보행환경 관리 전반을 함께 개선해야 한다”며 “이번 연구가 세종시 교통안전 정책의 실질적인 변화를 이끌어내는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
한편, ‘세종시 친보행자 환경조성을 위한 대중교통 개선 연구모임’은 오는 11월 5일 최종보고회를 열고 올해 연구활동을 마무리할 예정이다.
