우미희망재단이 전몰·순직 군·경·소방관 유가족 자녀를 위한 맞춤형 진로 프로그램을 이어가며, ‘기억과 성장’을 잇는 사회적 역할을 강화하고 있다.
우미희망재단(이사장 이석준)은 ‘히어로즈 패밀리 프로그램’의 일환으로 ‘퓨처스타트 진로캠프’를 지난 10월 25일부터 1박 2일간 서울에서 개최했다. 이번 캠프에는 전국에서 선발된 유가족 자녀 중·고등학생 16명이 참여했다.
교육을 통한 보훈의 확장
‘히어로즈 패밀리 프로그램’은 2022년부터 우미희망재단이 국가보훈부·초록우산 어린이재단 등과 협력해 운영 중인 민관 협력형 지원 사업이다. 단순한 보훈 복지 지원을 넘어, 유가족의 일상 회복과 자녀의 성장·진로 설계를 돕는 데 초점을 맞춘 통합 프로그램이다.
이번 ‘퓨처스타트 진로캠프’는 그중에서도 청소년의 진로 탐색에 특화된 맞춤형 교육 과정이다. 진학 컨설팅, 멘토링, 학습 관리, 국내외 진로 체험 등 다양한 방식으로 청소년 스스로 미래를 설계하도록 돕는다.
이번 캠프에서는 단순한 강의나 특강이 아닌, 참여형·체험형 프로그램이 중심이 됐다.
첫날에는 참가 학생들이 레크리에이션으로 친밀감을 쌓은 뒤, 개별 진로 컨설팅을 통해 자신의 적성과 진로 방향을 구체화했다.
둘째 날에는 서울대학교 캠퍼스를 탐방하고, 재학생 멘토들과 1:1로 만나는 시간을 가졌다.
멘토링에서는 전공 선택 과정, 대학 생활, 학습 방법 등 현실적 조언이 오갔으며, 참가자들은 “구체적인 목표를 세우는 계기가 됐다”고 소감을 전했다.
“기회와 가능성 잇는 사회적 동행”
이춘석 우미희망재단 사무국장은 “멘토와의 대화를 통해 스스로의 길을 그려보는 시간이 되었기를 바란다”며 “앞으로도 전몰·순직 유가족이 자랑스러운 사회 구성원으로 성장할 수 있도록 다양한 프로그램을 지속하겠다”고 말했다.
우미희망재단은 건설그룹 우미의 사회공헌재단으로, 주거복지·교육·보훈 등 사회적 약자 지원에 특화된 맞춤형 CSR 사업을 펼쳐왔다. 단순한 기부를 넘어, 교육을 통한 자립과 회복의 선순환 구조를 만드는 데 집중하고 있다.
‘퓨처스타트 진로캠프’는 바로 그 철학을 보여주는 현장이다. 국가를 위해 헌신한 이들의 가족이 다시 사회의 일원으로 성장할 수 있도록 돕는다는 점에서, 단순한 복지 지원을 넘어선 ‘미래형 보훈 모델’로 평가받고 있다.
Umi Hope Foundation Operates Career Mentoring Program for Bereaved Families of Deceased and Fallen Heroes
The Umi Hope Foundation is strengthening its social role of connecting 'remembrance and growth' by continuing customized career programs for the children of deceased and fallen soldiers, police officers, and firefighters.
The Umi Hope Foundation (Chairman Lee Seok-jun) held the 'Future Start Career Camp' in Seoul over two days, starting on October 25th, as part of the 'Heroes Family Program.' Sixteen middle and high school students from bereaved families selected from across the country participated in the camp.
Expansion of Veterans' Affairs through Education
The 'Heroes Family Program' is a public-private cooperative support project operated by the Umi Hope Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and the Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea since 2022. It is an integrated program focused on helping the bereaved families with daily life recovery and supporting their children's growth and career planning, going beyond simple welfare support for veterans' affairs.
The recent 'Future Start Career Camp' is a customized educational course specifically designed for the career exploration of adolescents. It helps the youth plan their future through various methods, including college entrance consulting, mentoring, academic management, and domestic/international career experience programs.
Focus on Hands-on Programs
The recent camp centered on participatory and experiential programs rather than simple lectures or special talks.
On the first day, participating students built rapport through recreation, and then clarified their aptitudes and career directions through individual career consulting.
On the second day, they toured the Seoul National University (SNU) campus and had one-on-one meetings with currently enrolled student mentors.
During the mentoring sessions, practical advice was exchanged on choosing a major, college life, and study methods. Participants shared feedback, saying the experience "provided an opportunity to set specific goals."
"Social Accompaniment Connecting Opportunity and Potential"
Lee Chun-seok, Secretary-General of the Umi Hope Foundation, stated, "I hope this time allowed them to envision their own path through conversations with mentors," adding, "We will continue diverse programs to ensure that the bereaved families of fallen heroes can grow into proud members of society."
The Umi Hope Foundation, the social contribution foundation of the Umi Construction Group, has developed customized Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects focused on supporting the socially vulnerable, including housing welfare, education, and veterans' affairs. It focuses on creating a virtuous cycle of independence and recovery through education, going beyond simple donations.
