이재명 대통령이 30일 '2025 경주 APEC(아시아태평양경제협력체)' 계기 다카이치 사나에 신임 일본 총리와 첫 양자회담을 가졌다.
이번 회담은 다카이치 총리 취임 9일 만에 이뤄진 양 정상 간 첫 대면으로 이날 저녁 경북 경주 화백컨벤션 센터에서 진행됐다.
이 대통령은 모두 발언에서 "격변하는 국제 정세·통상 환경 속 이웃 국가이자 공통점 많은 한·일 양국이 그 어느 때보다 미래지향적 협력을 강화해야 한다"며 "서로 경험을 공유하고 협력해 나가면 국내 뿐 아닌 국제 문제도 얼마든지 잘 해결해 나갈 수 있을 것"이라고 했다.
그러면서 "일본 역사상 첫 여성 총리 선출이라 들었는데 각별한 의미를 부여하고 있으며 진심으로 축하드린다"며 "오늘 자리가 한·일의 깊은 인연을 재확인하고 미래로 인연을 이어 나갈 좋은 계기가 되길 기대한다"고 했다.
대통령실은 이어진 비공개 회담에서 "양국이 안보·경제·사회 분야에서 폭넓은 관계를 이어가길 바란다"는 다카이치 총리 말에 이 대통령이 "한·일 관계 중요성에 공감하며 서로 의지하고 함께할 필요가 있다"고 답했다고 전했다.
다카이치 총리는 모두 발언에서 "그간 구축해 온 일·한관계 기반을 토대로 양국 관계를 미래지향적이고 안정적으로 발전시켜 나가는 게 양국을 위해 유익하다 확신한다"고 화답했다.
그러면서 "올해는 일·한 국교 정상화 60주년이란 큰 기념비적 해로 일·한은 서로에게 중요한 이웃 나라"라며 "지금의 전략 환경 아래 일·한 관계와 일·한·미 간 공조 중요성은 더욱 증대되고 있다"고 강조했다.

President Lee Jae-myung held his first bilateral meeting with newly appointed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the 30th, on the occasion of the 2025 Gyeongju APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit.
This meeting, the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since Prime Minister Takaichi took office nine days ago, took place that evening at the Hwabaek Convention Center in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
