[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 ‘모두를 위한 디자인 도시’로의 비전을 본격화하며 2028 세계디자인수도 추진 체계의 닻을 올렸다.
시는 30일 오후 2시 부산항국제컨벤션센터 콘퍼런스홀에서 '2028 세계디자인수도 부산 조직위원회' 출범식을 열고 민·관·산·학이 함께하는 추진 기반을 공식 가동했다.
출범식에는 박형준 부산시장을 비롯해 안성민 시의회 의장, 김석준 시 교육감, 양재생 부산상공회의소 회장 등 지역 주요 인사와 16개 구·군 단체장, 디자인산업계 관계자, 대학생 및 시민단체 등 400여 명이 참석해 부산의 새로운 도약을 함께 다짐했다.
민관산학이 함께하는 협력체 출범
조직위원회는 박형준 시장과 홍영철 고려제강 회장이 공동조직위원장을 맡아 시, 공공기관, 기업, 시민, 디자인 전문가 등 30명 이내 위원으로 구성됐다.
위원회는 ‘2028 세계디자인수도 부산’ 프로젝트를 총괄 조정하는 사령탑으로서 도시 디자인 비전 실현과 협력 거버넌스 조성의 중심 역할을 수행하게 된다.
출범식은 공동조직위원장 인사말을 시작으로 축사, 조직위원회 출범 스토리 소개, 미래부산디자인단 시민 대표 위촉장 수여, 16개 구·군의 디자인 선언 순으로 진행됐다. 특히 ‘디자인 선언’에서는 시장과 단체장들이 함께 ‘모두를 위한 디자인 도시 부산’의 비전을 시민 앞에 선포하는 상징적인 장면이 연출됐다.

미래세대가 주도하는 시민 디자인 공동체
이날 행사에서는 시민 참여로 구성된 ‘미래 부산 디자인단’ 대표 4명에게 위촉장이 수여됐다.
‘미래 부산 디자인단’은 ▲키즈 디자인랩 ▲영 웨이브 디자인단 ▲유니버설 디자인단 ▲시니어 디자인단 ▲세계디자인수도 홍보단 등 다섯 개 분야로 운영되며, 관심 있는 시민 360명이 선발됐다.
이들은 디자인 정책 제안, 캠페인 참여, 온·오프라인 홍보 등 다양한 활동을 통해 혁신과 창의의 시민 공동체를 이끌게 된다.
또한 기업자문단과 디자인산업자문단도 구성돼 산업 현장의 경험을 바탕으로 정책 동반자로 참여하고, 디자인 산업의 혁신과 성장을 주도할 예정이다.
지역대학과 청년디자이너 작품 전시
출범식장 한편에서는 부산을 응원하는 지역대학의 젊은 디자인 에너지도 더해졌다. 고신대, 동서대, 동아대, 부경대, 부산대, 경성대 등 지역 6개 대학과 디자인 스토어 ‘빅샵(Big Shop)’이 함께 마련한 특별 전시에서는 청년 디자이너 14명의 작품이 소개돼 참석자들의 눈길을 끌었다.
세계디자인기구와 협력한 국제행사 예고
시는 이번 출범식을 계기로 2026년부터 2028년까지 세계디자인기구(WDO)와 협력해 7종의 의무 프로그램과 지역특화 프로젝트를 추진한다.
2026년 3월 ‘세계디자인수도 협정식’을 시작으로 ▲세계 디자인 거리 축제 ▲세계 디자인 스포트라이트 ▲세계 디자인 체험 ▲세계 디자인 정책 콘퍼런스 ▲세계 디자인 도시 네트워크 회의 ▲세계 디자인 수도 인계인수식 등 다채로운 국제행사를 순차적으로 개최할 예정이다.
부산 전역이 디자인의 무대로 변모하며, 시민 참여형 프로젝트도 본격화된다.

“디자인으로 도시의 품격 높이겠다”
박형준 부산시장은 “2028 세계디자인수도 부산은 단순한 타이틀이 아니라 도시의 미래를 바꾸는 출발점”이라며 “디자인을 통해 시민의 삶과 행복을 풍요롭게 하고, 모두가 참여하는 포용의 디자인 도시로 나아가겠다”고 말했다.
박 시장은 이어 “조직위원회를 중심으로 시민·기업·전문가가 함께하는 글로벌 디자인 협력 생태계를 조성해 부산을 세계가 주목하는 디자인 수도로 성장시키겠다”고 강조했다.

Busan City held the launch ceremony for the “World Design Capital (WDC) Busan 2028 Organizing Committee” on October 30 at the Busan Port International Convention Center Conference Hall, marking the official start of its journey toward becoming a global design city.
The event was attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, Busan City Council Chair Ahn Sung-min, Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Yang Jae-saeng, and other key local figures, as well as the heads of 16 district and county offices, industry leaders, design students, and members of the Future Busan Design Corps, totaling around 400 participants. The ceremony served as a platform for cooperation among the public, private, industrial, and academic sectors.

The ceremony featured opening remarks by the co-chairs, congratulatory messages, a brief history of the organizing committee, the presentation of appointment letters to civic representatives, and an official “Design Declaration” made jointly by the mayor and 16 district and county leaders.
During the declaration, city leaders symbolically announced Busan’s vision to become a “Design for All” city that fosters inclusion and creativity for every citizen.
A design exhibition featuring 14 works by young local designers was also held with the participation of six universities—Kosin, Dongseo, Dong-A, Pukyong National, Busan, and Kyungsung—and design firm Big Shop, showcasing collaborative creativity and the city’s design talent.
Committee to serve as command center for WDC 2028...Mayor Park and Kolon Chairman Hong Yeong-cheol named co-chairs
The new organizing committee will be led by Mayor Park Heong-joon and Hong Yeong-cheol, Chairman of Kolon Group, and will include up to 30 members representing the city government, public institutions, businesses, citizens, and design experts.
As the central control tower for WDC Busan 2028, the committee will coordinate strategies and projects to realize the city’s comprehensive design vision.

Civic group “Future Busan Design Corps” inaugurated 360 citizens join to drive creative and participatory design initiatives
During the event, four representatives of the Future Busan Design Corps received their appointment certificates. The corps is a civic network dedicated to innovation and creativity, composed of 360 citizens divided into five teams: Kids Design Lab, Young Wave Design Team, Universal Design Team, Senior Design Team, and the WDC Promotion Team.
Members will participate in policy proposals, design campaigns, and promotional activities, strengthening civic participation in Busan’s design culture.
Corporate advisory and industry panels were also established, allowing experienced professionals and companies to act as partners in policy execution and to support the growth of Busan’s design industry.
Global programs set to begin in 2026 Busan to host world-class design events through 2028
Following the committee’s launch, the city plans to collaborate with the World Design Organization (WDO) to implement seven official programs and local signature projects from 2026 to 2028.
Starting with the “World Design Capital Agreement Ceremony” in March 2026, events will include the World Design Street Festival, World Design Spotlight, World Design Experience, World Design Policy Conference, World Design Cities Network Meeting, and the official WDC Handover Ceremony. The entire city will transform into a global stage for design-driven events and exhibitions.

Mayor Park vows to build a global hub of design collaboration “The World Design Capital 2028 is not just a title—it is the beginning of a grand journey to transform our city’s future,” said Mayor Park Heong-joon.
“Through design, we will enrich the lives and happiness of our citizens, elevate the dignity of our city, and advance as a participatory and inclusive design capital,” he added.
Mayor Park emphasized that the city will foster a global design collaboration ecosystem involving citizens, businesses, and experts to position Busan as a world-leading design capital.
