충청권 핵심 광역교통사업인 ‘대전–세종–충북 광역급행철도(CTX)’가 민자적격성조사를 통과하며 사업 추진의 첫 관문을 넘었다.
세종시는 4일 기획재정부 민간투자사업심의위원회 심의 결과 충청권 광역급행철도(CTX)가 사업성을 확보하며 2028년 착공 실현 목표에 성큼 다가섰다고 밝혔다.
지난 2024년 5월 기획재정부와 한국개발연구원(KDI)이 조사에 착수한 지 약 1년 6개월 만의 성과다.
민자적격성 조사 통과는 정부가 해당 사업을 민간 투자 사업으로 추진 가능하다고 공식적으로 판단했다는 의미다.
충청권 광역급행철도(CTX)는 총사업비 약 5조원을 투입해 대전정부청사에서 세종정부청사를 거쳐 청주국제공항까지 64.4㎞를 연결하는 사업이다.
해당 노선이 구축되면 대전·세종·청주를 30분 대로 빠르게 연결하여 충청권 광역교통망의 핵심축이 될 것으로 기대된다.
이와 함께 기존 경부선을 활용해 서울역에서 조치원역을 거쳐 세종정부청사와 대전정부청사까지 운행하는 지역 간 열차도 함께 운행해 활용성을 한층 높일 계획이다.
이렇게 되면 수도권과의 접근성을 높이는 것은 물론 대통령 제2집무실과 국회 세종의사당 개원 이후 세종시가 명실상부한 행정수도로 자리매김하기 위한 필수 교통 기반이 마련될 것으로 전망된다.
시는 그동안 충청권 광역급행철도(CTX) 사업의 타당성 확보를 위해 국토교통부와 긴밀히 협력하며 다각적인 노력을 기울여왔다.
특히 민자적격성조사 정책성 평가 과정에 충청권 광역급행철도(CTX)의 행정수도 기능 지원, 지역 균형발전 효과 등 사업 추진의 당위성을 강조하며 조사 통과에 적극 기여했다.
시는 앞으로 제3자 제안공고, 우선협상대상자 선정, 실시협약 등 후속 행정절차가 신속히 추진될 수 있도록 국토교통부와 적극 협조할 계획이다.
최민호 시장은 “CTX는 단순한 철도사업이 아니라 행정수도로서의 세종과 충청권을 하나로 잇는 성장축이자 국가균형발전의 핵심 기반시설”이라며 “세종시민의 의견을 충분히 반영해 진정한 지역민의 철도가 될 수 있도록 국토교통부와 긴밀히 소통하겠다”고 말했다.
