[브레이크뉴스=.배종테 기자] 부산이 13일간 이어진 '제106회 전국체육대회'와 '제45회 전국장애인체육대회'를 모두 성공적으로 마무리했다.
지난 10월 31일부터 사직실내체육관을 비롯한 경기장에서 펼쳐진 장애인체육대회는 5일 저녁 폐회식을 끝으로 대단원의 막을 내렸다.
52년 만의 쾌거, 부산시 종합 2위 달성
전국체육대회에서 부산은 ‘종합 2위 탈환’이라는 역사적인 성과를 거두며 지역 체육의 저력을 전국에 입증했다. 개최지로서 선수단의 끈질긴 노력과 시민들의 응원이 결합해 52년 만의 기적 같은 성적을 만들어냈다.
장애인과 비장애인이 함께한 화합의 무대
이어 열린 장애인체육대회는 24년 만에 부산에서 개최돼 더욱 뜻깊었다. 선수와 시민이 함께 어우러진 이번 대회는 경쟁을 넘어 서로의 이해와 공감을 나누는 장이 되었고, 스포츠를 통한 사회 통합의 메시지를 깊게 전했다.
시민·자원봉사자들의 헌신이 만든 성공
대회 현장 곳곳에서는 약 4천 명의 자원봉사자와 1만6천여 명의 시민·학생 서포터스가 활약하며 성공적인 운영을 이끌었다. 미소와 배려로 경기를 지원한 이들은 “보이지 않는 주역”으로 꼽히며 시민 참여형 스포츠 축제의 새로운 모델을 제시했다.

부산 체육 인프라·지역경제 모두 웃었다
대회 준비 과정에서 개선된 체육 기반 시설은 시민 생활체육 활성화에 기여하며 향후 국제 경기 유치의 발판이 되었다. 전국 각지와 18개국 재외한인단체에서 찾아온 선수단과 관람객은 지역 상권에 활력을 불어넣어 경제적 파급효과도 컸다.
‘무장애 도시 부산’ 선언
박형준 부산시장은 “장애는 차이가 아니라 공존의 출발점”이라며 “이번 대회를 계기로 이동권 확대와 일자리 창출, 모두가 스포츠의 즐거움을 누리는 도시를 만들어가겠다”고 강조했다.
내년 5월, 유스 스포츠 대회로 열기 잇는다
부산시는 내년 '제20회 전국장애학생체육대회'(5월 12~15일)와 「'55회 전국소년체육대회'(5월 23~26일)도 차질 없이 개최해 스포츠 도시로서의 위상을 잇겠다는 계획이다. 또한 12월에는 ‘성공개최 기념 성과보고회’와 ‘시민감사 이벤트’를 통해 이번 대회의 의미를 되새기고 향후 체육시설 활용 방안도 논의할 예정이다.

Busan Reclaims Second Place After 52 Years
During the National Sports Festival held from October 17 to 23, Busan athletes achieved a remarkable feat—reclaiming second place overall for the first time in 52 years. The record-breaking result, made possible by the athletes’ relentless effort and strong citizen support, underscored the city’s renewed strength in Korean sports.
Para Games Inspire Inclusion and Empathy
Returning to Busan for the first time in 24 years, the National Para Games brought together people with and without disabilities under the slogan “One Korea, United in Global Hub City Busan.” Beyond competition, the event became a powerful platform for understanding, empathy, and social inclusion through sports.
Volunteers and Citizens Power Event’s Success
More than 4,000 volunteers and 16,000 citizen and student supporters played key roles in the event’s success. They managed entry and guidance at venues, parking assistance, and created a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Their enthusiastic participation embodied Busan’s community spirit and helped shape the competition into a true citizen-driven festival.
Boost for Sports Infrastructure and Local Economy
The city’s preparations improved sports infrastructure across Busan, enhancing the foundation for everyday sports participation and future international events. Visiting athletes and spectators contributed to local business vitality, generating significant economic ripple effects throughout the region.
Mayor Park Pledges Inclusive Future
Mayor Park Heong-joon remarked that “disability is not a difference but the beginning of coexistence rooted in respect and care.” He vowed to transform Busan into a fully inclusive, barrier-free city, expanding mobility rights, creating better jobs, and ensuring that all residents can enjoy the joy of sports and daily life.
Youth Sports Stage Set for 2026
Following the success of this year’s events, Busan will host the 20th National Para Student Games (May 12–15) and the 55th National Youth Sports Festival (May 23–26) next year. In December, the city plans a public event and a celebratory forum to share achievements, showcase highlight videos, and discuss how to leverage sports facilities for future use.
