이랜드그룹이 중국 장애가정 청소년을 위한 장기 교육지원에 나선다.
이랜드는 지난 7일 베이징 중국장애인연합회 본부에서 중국장애인복지기금회와 10년간 장학사업을 수행하는 협약을 체결했다고 10일 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 이랜드가 중국에서 운영해 온 ‘양광장학사업’의 지원 대상을 올해부터 장애인 가정의 고등학생으로 전환한 뒤, 이를 제도화하고 민간–공공 협력 모델로 확장하기 위한 조치다.
협약식에는 노재헌 주중 한국대사를 비롯해 이랜드그룹 최종양 부회장, 정영일 이랜드재단 대표, 중국장애인연합회 저우창쿠이 서기 겸 이사장, 후샹양 부이사장, 중국장애인복지기금회 자오수징 이사장 등이 자리했다.
노재헌 대사는 “이랜드는 30여 년간 순이익의 10%를 중국 사회에 환원해 온 책임 있는 기업”이라며, 이번 협력의 의미를 “한·중이 비전을 나누는 따뜻한 여정의 시작”이라고 평가했다.
‘양광장학사업’은 2011년 출범한 이래 누적 3만7천 명의 장학생을 배출한 중국 대표 민간 장학 프로그램으로 자리 잡았다. 이랜드는 올해부터 장애가 있거나 장애인 가족을 둔 고등학생을 대상으로 매년 1,000명을 선발해 3년간 장학금·생활물품·멘토링을 제공하며, 대학 진학 시 중국장애인복지기금회의 등록금 전액 지원도 연계된다.
가까운 지역 공공지원이 닿기 어려운 장애가정 청소년에게 실질적 교육 기회를 제공하는 것에 초점을 맞춘 것이 특징이다.
후샹양 중국장애인연합회 부이사장은 “장애학생에게 실질적 기회를 열어주는 의미 있는 전환점”이라며 “복지 생태계를 확장하는 계기가 될 것”이라고 강조했다.
자오수징 중국장애인복지기금회 이사장은 “이번 협약은 공공의 손길이 미치지 못한 영역을 채우는 민–관 협력의 성공 모델”이라고 평가했다.
이랜드는 지난 30여 년 동안 중국 지역사회에 약 2,200억 원을 기부하며 글로벌 사회공헌 전략을 이어왔다. 단순 기부를 넘어 장기 교육복지 체계 구축에 나선 이번 협약이 현지 사회공헌 방향 전환점이 될 것이라는 분석이다.
최종양 부회장은 “중국에서 성장한 기업으로서 받은 것을 돌려드리는 일은 당연한 책임”이라며 “장애가정 학생이 가능성을 포기하지 않도록 정부·지역사회와 함께 지속 가능한 사회공헌을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
E-Land Signs 10-Year Scholarship Agreement with China Disabled Persons' Welfare Foundation
E-Land Group commits to long-term educational support for youth from families with disabilities in China.
E-Land announced on the 10th that it signed a 10-year agreement with the China Disabled Persons' Welfare Foundation (CDPWF) on November 7th at the headquarters of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) in Beijing to conduct a scholarship program.
This agreement is a measure to institutionalize and expand E-Land's existing 'Yangguang (Sunshine) Scholarship Program' into a public-private partnership model, after having shifted the program's target this year to high school students from families with disabilities in China.
The signing ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the South Korean Ambassador to China, Noh Jae-heon, as well as E-Land Group Vice Chairman Choi Jong-yang, E-Land Foundation CEO Jung Young-il, CDPF Secretary and Chairman Zhou Changkui, Vice Chairman Hu Xiangyang, and CDPWF Chairwoman Zhao Shujing.
Ambassador Noh Jae-heon praised the cooperation, stating, "E-Land is a responsible company that has returned 10% of its net profit to Chinese society for over 30 years," and evaluated the collaboration as the "start of a warm journey where Korea and China share a vision."
The 'Yangguang Scholarship Program,' launched in 2011, has grown into a leading private scholarship program in China, having supported a cumulative 37,000 students. Starting this year, E-Land will select 1,000 high school students annually who have a disability or a family member with a disability, providing them with scholarships, living supplies, and mentoring for three years. The program is also linked with the CDPWF's commitment to cover full tuition fees if the students advance to university.
The program is distinct in its focus on providing practical educational opportunities to youth from disabled families who are often beyond the reach of local public support.
Hu Xiangyang, Vice Chairman of the CDPF, emphasized, "This is a meaningful turning point that opens up practical opportunities for disabled students," and stressed that it will serve as a catalyst for expanding the welfare ecosystem.
Zhao Shujing, Chairwoman of the CDPWF, praised the agreement as a "successful model of private-public cooperation that fills areas where public assistance could not reach."
E-Land has maintained its global corporate social responsibility strategy by donating approximately 220 billion KRW to Chinese communities over the past 30 years. Analysts suggest that this agreement, which moves beyond simple donations to establish a long-term educational welfare system, will mark a turning point in the company's local social contribution efforts.
Vice Chairman Choi Jong-yang remarked, "As a company that has grown in China, it is our natural responsibility to give back what we have received," and affirmed, "We will continue sustainable social contributions with the government and local community to ensure students from families with disabilities do not give up on their potential."
