신한장학재단이 순직·공상 소방관 자녀 장학사업 공로를 인정받아 ‘제63회 소방의 날’ 정부포상에서 국무총리 표창을 수상했다고 10일 밝혔다.
신한장학재단은 2012년 소방방재청(현 소방청)과 업무협약을 체결한 이후, 국가·사회 안전을 위해 희생한 소방관들의 뜻을 기리기 위해 매년 자녀 장학금을 지원해 왔다. 지금까지 약 650여 명에게 총 22억 원 규모의 장학금이 지급됐다.
재단은 내년부터 지원 범위를 넓힌다. 연 600만 원의 생활·자기계발 지원과 함께 해외 교환학생, 석·박사 과정 등 글로벌 리더 육성 프로그램을 신설해 장기 교육을 지원한다는 계획이다. 단순 장학금 지급을 넘어 중장기 역량 강화까지 지원하겠다는 취지다.
신한금융 관계자는 “국가와 국민을 위해 헌신한 소방관들의 희생에 깊이 감사드린다”며 “앞으로도 소방관 자녀들이 안정적으로 학업을 이어가고 꿈을 키워갈 수 있도록 지속적으로 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 신한장학재단은 2006년 설립 이후 취약계층 학생 및 순직·공상 경찰·소방·해양경찰 유공자 자녀 등 약 3000여 명에게 총 415억 원 규모의 장학금을 지원한 바 있다.

The Shinhan Scholarship Foundation announced on the 10th that it received the Prime Minister's Commendation at the government awards ceremony for the '63rd Fire Safety Day,' in recognition of its contribution to the scholarship program for the children of firefighters killed or injured in the line of duty.
Since signing a business agreement with the National Emergency Management Agency (now the National Fire Agency) in 2012, the Shinhan Scholarship Foundation has annually provided scholarships to the children of firefighters to honor the sacrifices made for national and public safety. To date, scholarships totaling approximately 2.2 billion KRW have been awarded to over 650 individuals.
The Foundation plans to expand its scope of support starting next year. In addition to providing 6 million KRW annually for living and self-development expenses, it plans to introduce new programs to foster global leaders, such as support for overseas exchange students and those pursuing Master's and Doctoral degrees, offering long-term educational assistance. The goal is to move beyond simple scholarship provision to supporting mid-to-long-term competency building.
An official from Shinhan Financial Group expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifice of the firefighters who dedicated themselves to the nation and its people, stating, "We will continue to support the children of firefighters so that they can stably pursue their studies and foster their dreams."
Meanwhile, since its establishment in 2006, the Shinhan Scholarship Foundation has provided scholarships totaling 41.5 billion KRW to approximately 3,000 students, including those from vulnerable groups and the children of police, firefighters, and coast guard personnel killed or injured in the line of duty.
