이재명 대통령이 14일 경기도 주한미군 공여지 미반환 문제에 대해 "최대한 빨리 관할을 넘겨 받도록 하라"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 경기 파주 라이브러리스테이 지지향에서 '경기 북부의 마음을 듣다' 주제로 열린 타운홀미팅에서 "반환키로 했으면 제 시간에 반환해야지 거기를 주유소로 쓴다 하지 않나 식자재 창고 용지로 쓰고 있다는데 매우 부당하다"며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "여길 반환해 주는 조건으로 평택 기지 대부분을 우리 돈으로 지어 이사간 지 몇 년짼데 아직 반환하지 않고 있다는 게 매우 이해하기 어렵다"고 했다.
이어 "국방장관이 계속 노력해달라"며 "주민 여러분도 목소리를 키워달라"고 했다.
또 "외교·안보 사안이라 (못하고 있는데) 우리 마음대로 하자면 내일이라도 비워버리겠는데 불행하게도 대한민국 국가 공권력이 닿지 않는 곳이다. 말이 안 되는 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
