[팔만대장경]

내가 하나의 경(經)이었다는 것을
자작나무 목판 위에 새겨진
대장경이었다는 것을
폐경이 된 오십에서야 알았다
펼쳐놓은 책장 덮듯
홀연히 경을 덮고 떠나버린
목공을 내가 불러본다
달마다 핏빛으로 쓰여진
경을 맞이하며
한 번도 큰절 올린 적 없었던 나
바람처럼 날아가버린
그 많던 경들의 향기를
지금 내가
그리워하는 까닭은 무엇일까
붉게 타오르던
꽃잎 진자리마다
팔만대장경의 흔적 더듬고 있는
나는
전생에 키 작은 보살이었나 보다

I realized I was a sutra,
carved on a birch block,
only in my fifties, after menopause, did I realize.
Like closing an open book,
I suddenly close the sutra and leave,
I call out to the woodworker who left.
Welcoming the sutras written in blood every month,
I, who never once bowed deeply,
why do I now
long for the fragrance of those countless sutras,
that have flown away like the wind?
In every petal that once burned crimson,
I trace the traces of the Tripitaka Koreana,
I
must have been a short Bodhisattva in a past life.
Poet Kang Min-sook was born in Buan, North Jeolla Province. She holds a master's degree in creative writing from Dongguk University and a doctorate in creative writing from Myongji University. He is the author of the poetry collections "Burying You in the Sunset," "You Float to an Island in the Sea," "Flowers Don't Blame the Wind," "There Is No Nest," "Reading Chaeseokgang," and "The Song of the Boy Worker Jaemyeong," as well as over ten other books. He is the CEO of "Big Thought Tree," a publishing company. He is also the Vice-Chairman of the Buan County Donghak Peasant Revolution Steering Committee, a former director of the Korean Writers Association, a former spokesperson for the Korean National Arts Federation, and the director of the ICLAA Creative Writing Center.
