이재명 대통령이 18일(현지시간) 아랍에미리트(UAE)와 투자·국방·방위 산업·원자력·에너지·인공지능(AI) 등 첨단 기술·보건·문화 등 미래 지향적 분야로의 협력 확대 방안을 논의하겠다고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 공개된 UAE 언론 '알 이티하드' 서면 인터뷰에서 “UAE는 세계 최초로 한국산 원자로 4기를 수입함으로써 한국 기술력·안전성에 대한 깊은 신뢰를 보여줬다”며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 양국 간 포괄적 경제 동반자 협정(CEPA) 관련해 “전기·하이브리드 차량·석유·화학 등 교역 품목 90% 이상에 관세가 철폐된다”며 “양국 간 교역·투자 확대는 물론 산업 경쟁력을 높이고 소비자 혜택도 늘 것”이라고 했다.
또 "무함마드 빈 자이드 알 나하얀 UAE 대통령과 기존 4대 핵심 협력 분야인 투자·방위산업·원자력·에너지에 더해 AI·헬스·문화 등이 포함된 미래지향적 첨단기술 분야로 협력을 확대키로 했다“고 전했다.
이어 “바라카 원전의 안정적 운영을 위한 유지·보수·AI 데이터 센터·의료 서비스 허브 건설 등 첨단 분야에서 구체적 기회를 발굴하려는 실질적 협력도 강화하겠다”며 "이 파트너십이 양국 간 무역·투자 확대 전환점이 될 뿐만 아닌 가장 가까운 경제 파트너로 격상시키는 발판이 될 것"이라고 했다.
더불어 ”한국은 반도체 공급망에서 메모리칩 생산 글로벌 리더로서 UAE가 필요로 하는 첨단 AI 메모리칩을 공급할 수 있는 전략적 파트너“라며 ”최근 오픈AI 등 글로벌 기업·한국 반도체 생산 기업 협업은 한국이 AI 인프라 구축에 있어 필수적 기술적 파트너임을 보여준다“고 했다.
이 대통령은 ”바라카 원전 건설·운영 성공으로 새로운 협력 장을 열 것“이라며 "UAE의 풍부한 태양광 에너지 잠재력·한국의 세계적인 배터리 기술을 결합하면 친환경 산업 분야에서 양국 리더십을 크게 강화할 수 있다”고 했다.
