【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=권오상 전 대구시 환경수자원국장이 지난 18일 국민의힘에 공식 입당하며 내년 6월 3일 치러지는 지방선거에서 대구 서구청장 선거에 본격적으로 뛰어들었다.
공직자 사퇴 시한이 아직 충분한 가운데 권 전 국장은 지난 17일 31년간의 공직 생활을 마무리하고 명예퇴임을 선택했다. 본격적인 선거 준비를 위한 적극적인 행보로 해석된다.
19일 대구시와 국민의힘 대구시당 등에 따르면 권 전 국장은 18일 대구시당을 찾아 입당 원서를 제출했다.
권 전 국장은 “대구 시민과 함께한 31년이 제 인생의 큰 기둥이 됐다”며 “공직에서 쌓은 경험을 바탕으로 지역 발전과 서구의 재도약에 힘을 보태고자 입당을 결심했다”고 밝혔다.
권 전 국장은 2022년 10월부터 지난해 12월까지 약 2년간 서구 부구청장으로 재임하며 지역 현안을 가까이에서 다뤄왔다. 이 때문에 지역 정치권과 사회에서는 일찍부터 그의 서구청장 출마를 기정사실로 받아들여 왔다.
그는 또 “주민 곁에서 직접 목소리를 듣고, 지역 현안 해결 방안도 보완해 나가겠다”며 “침체된 서구 일부 지역의 활성화, 악취 문제 개선, 고령 인구를 위한 복지 및 문화시설 확충 등 쾌적한 정주 환경 조성에 주력하겠다”고 강조했다.
경북 의성 출신인 권 전 국장은 평리초, 평리중, 영남고를 거쳐 영남대학교 정치외교학과와 사회복지학과(대학원)에서 수학했다. 이후 대구시 환경수자원국장, 서구 부구청장, 행정국장, 일자리노동정책과장 등을 역임하며 시민생활과 밀접한 정책을 추진, 조직 운영과 조정 능력을 인정받았다.

A native of Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Director Kwon attended Pyeongri Elementary School, Pyeongri Middle School, and Yeongnam High School. He then studied political science and international relations at Yeungnam University and its graduate school in social welfare. He subsequently served as Director of the Environment and Water Resources Bureau of Daegu City, Deputy Mayor of Seo-gu, Director of the Administrative Bureau, and Director of the Employment and Labor Policy Division, where he promoted policies closely related to the lives of citizens, earning recognition for his organizational management and coordination skills.
