이재명 대통령이 23일(현지시간) “튀르키예는 한국의 단순 생산기지가 아닌 혁신·투자·글로벌 경쟁력을 함께 키워 갈 전략 파트너”라고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 튀르키예 방문에 앞서 이날 공개된 현지 '아나돌루 통신'과의 서면 인터뷰에서 "튀르키예는 한국에 있어 전략 동반자·유라시아 지역 중요 허브"라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "향후 협력 범위를 원전·바이오헬스·디지털 전환·신재생에너지·AI(인공지능) 등 미래 지향적 산업으로의 확대를 목표로 하고 있다"며 "양국 안보를 강화하고 기술 역량을 발전시키며 지역 안정에 기여하는 미래지향적 방위 파트너십을 지지할 준비가 돼 있다”고 했다.
또 “최근 몇 년간 튀르키예와 한국 사이에서 국방 산업·첨단 기술 분야 협력이 집중됐다”며 "한국 엔진을 장착한 튀르키예 첫 양산형 알타이 주력 전차가 출시된 건 양국이 함께 무엇을 이룰 수 있는지 보여주는 강력한 사례"라고 했다.
이어 "양국 모두 선도적 방위 역량을 갖춘 국가로 도약 과정에 있고, 이 분야서 상호 신뢰를 바탕으로 협력을 더 넓혀갈 수 있길 기대한다"며 "튀르키예는 무인 항공 시스템 분야에서 세계적 선도국 위치에 올랐으며 한국은 전차·포병·함정 등 각종 첨단 플랫폼에서 뛰어난 경쟁력을 확보하고 있다"고 했다.

이 대통령은 "양국 원전 협력은 아직 초기 단계이나 잠재력은 매우 크다"며 "한국 기업의 시놉 원자력발전소 프로젝트 참여를 두고 논의가 진행 중인데 세계 최고 수준 원전 기술·운영 안전 능력을 갖춘 한국이 터키 원자력 발전에 의미 있는 기여를 하게 되길 기대한다"고 덧붙였다.
또 "북한과 언제 어떤 채널로든 대화할 준비가 돼 있고, 대화 문은 계속 열려 있을 것"이라며 "대화를 복원하는 게 가장 중요한 최우선 과제"라고 했다.
