이재명 대통령이 24일(현지시간) 레제프 타이이프 에르도안 튀르키예 대통령과 정상회담을 갖고 한·튀르키예 간 원전·방산·문화 등 분야에 대한 포괄적 협력을 강화하는 내용의 공동 성명을 채택했다.
대통령실에 따르면 양 정상 간 회담은 이날 오후 4시 57분께 앙카라 대통령궁에서 시작돼 소인수(1시간 9분)·확대회담(34분) 등 순으로 진행된 후 공동 언론 발표로 이어졌다.
회담에 앞서 이 대통령은 이날 앙카라 아니트카비르를 방문해 튀르키예 국부 무스타파 케말 아타튀르크 묘소 참배 후 방명록에 '아타튀르크를 기리며, 피를 나눈 형제국의 공동 번영을 위해 함께 나아가겠습니다'라고 적었다. 튀르키예 독립·근대화를 이끈 아타튀르크 대통령은 공화국 초대 대통령을 지냈다.
이 대통령은 "양국은 2012년 '전략적 동반자 관계'를 체결하고 정무·경제·문화·인적 교류 등 모든 분야에서 호혜적 협력을 심화해 나가고 있다"며 "에르도안 대통령과 저는 양국의 전략적 동반자 관계를 더욱 미래지향적이고 호혜적 관계로 확대·발전시키는 방안을 심도 있게 논의했다"고 말했다.
그러면서 "양국이 방산 강국 도약을 위해 노력하는 과정서 상호 신뢰를 바탕으로 협력을 지속해 나가기로 했다"며 "알타이 전차 사업 같은 성공적 협력 사례를 더 많이 만들어 양국 방위 산업 역량을 강화하고 평화·안보 증진에도 기여하길 기대한다"고 했다.
또 "튀르키예 신규 원전 사업 추진에 앞으로 남은 세부 평가 과정이 순조롭게 이어질 수 있도록 양국 정부 차원에서 관심 갖고 지원해 나가기로 했다"며 "한국의 우수한 원전 기술·안전 운영 역량이 튀르키예 원전 개발에 실질 기여할 수 있길 기대한다"고 했다.
이어 "바이오 분야에 튀르키예 정부가 추진하는 '혈액 제제 자급화 사업'에 한국 기업 'SK플라즈마' 참여를 기쁘게 생각한다"며 "양국이 혈맹 관계인 점을 생각하면 이번 사업 의미가 더 크게 다가오는 것 같다"고 했다.
더불어 "신재생에너지·AI(인공지능)·디지털 포함 첨단과학기술 분야도 양국 간 전략적 협력을 심화해 나가기로 했다"며 "양국 국민 간 유대 심화를 위해 인적·문화적 교류도 더욱 활성화해 나가기로 했다"고 전했다.
이 대통령은 "우리 대북 정책에 대한 에르도안 대통령·튀르키예 정부의 일관된 지지에 감사드린다"며 "우리로서도 중동 정세에 평화 증진을 위한 에르도안 대통령 노력을 높이 평가하며 튀르키예 내 시리아 난민 문제 해결에 기여코자 인도적 지원을 강화키로 한 것을 의미 있게 생각한다"고 했다.
양국은 이날 원자력 협력 등에 관한 MOU(양해각서)와 도로 인프라 분야 관련 협력 MOU·보훈 협력 관련 MOU를 체결했다.
