지난 11월 24일 오후 5시 30분 한국프레스센터 20층 프레스클럽에서 ‘2025 세계인류평화명사초청세미나’ 및 ‘2025 세계인류평화봉사문화대상 시상식’이 성황리에 개최됐다. 이날 행사에서 연설자로 나선 이창호 한중교류촉진위원회 위원장은 “혼란이 격화되는 국제 질서 속에서, 한국은 인류평화공동체의 책임 있는 구성원으로서 더 큰 역할을 감당해야 한다”고 강조했다.
이 위원장은 “지금 세계는 단순한 국가 간 갈등을 넘어 문명적 충돌이 현실이 되는 시대에 직면해 있다”며 “이런 시기일수록 한민족이 지녀온 평화적 철학과 상생의 지혜가 세계가 찾는 해법이 될 수 있다”고 말했다.
그는 특히 한반도 평화의 의미를 세계적 차원으로 확장해 설명했다. 이 위원장은 “한반도 평화는 결코 지역적 사안이 아니라 동북아 안보의 중심축이며, 세계 평화질서의 시험대”라며 “대립과 경쟁이 아닌 신뢰와 대화의 원칙을 견지하는 나라만이 국제사회에서 지속 가능한 영향력을 갖는다”고 강조했다.
이 위원장은 또 한국이 국제사회에서 갖는 ‘중견국의 책무’를 명확히 정의했다. 그는 “한국은 선진국 대열에 들어섰지만, 여전히 세계 여러 현장에서 분쟁·빈곤·환경 위기가 이어지고 있다”며 “이제는 받는 외교에서 벗어나, 인류 공동 번영에 기여하는 도덕적 리더십을 발휘해야 한다”고 말했다.

그는 특히 문화·교육·민간교류의 역할을 강조했다.
“군사력과 경제력만으로 신뢰를 얻을 수 없다. 진정한 평화는 문화와 상호이해에서 비롯된다”며 “한국이 아시아와 세계를 연결하는 문화 가교가 될 때, 우리의 평화철학은 더 넓은 무대로 확장될 것”이라고 말했다.
이 위원장은 한중 양국의 역할에 대한 언급도 아끼지 않았다. “동북아의 평화는 한국과 중국, 일본 등 주변국의 협력 없이는 불가능하다”며 “특히 한국과 중국은 오랜 역사적 연결성과 민간 교류의 기반을 갖고 있는 만큼, 갈등보다 협력의 지대를 넓혀야 한다”고 말했다. 이는 최근 냉각된 동북아 정세 속에서 신뢰 구축의 필요성을 재차 강조한 발언으로 평가된다.

He particularly emphasized the role of culture, education, and civilian exchange.
"Trust cannot be gained through military power or economic power alone. True peace stems from culture and mutual understanding," he said. "When Korea becomes a cultural bridge connecting Asia and the world, our peace philosophy will expand to a broader stage."
Chairman Lee also spared no effort to highlight the roles of South Korea and China. "Peace in Northeast Asia is impossible without the cooperation of neighboring countries like South Korea, China, and Japan," he said. "In particular, given the long historical ties and foundation of civilian exchange between South Korea and China, we must expand the scope of cooperation rather than conflict."
