세종시와 (재)세종평생교육·정책연구원이 25일 시청 5층 세종실에서 SK바이오텍㈜ 와 지역 인재의 해외 유학 지원을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다.
이번 협약은 세종시의 지역 인재 해외 유학 지원사업인 ‘세종, 세계로 장학금’ 사업을 세계적인 기업과의 협력을 통해 보다 안정적으로 운영하기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 협약식에는 세종연구원 이사장인 최민호 시장과 박용우 SK바이오텍㈜ 대표이사가 참석해 향후 10년간 세종시 청년들을 세계적인 인재로 육성하는 데 협력하기로 약속했다.
SK바이오텍㈜는 오는 2026년부터 10년간 매년 5,000만 원씩 총 5억 원을 ‘세종, 세계로 장학금’ 등 장학사업으로 지정 기탁할 예정이다.
‘세종, 세계로 장학금’은 세종시 관내 대학생 및 졸업생 중 해외 유수 대학의 석사 또는 박사 과정 진학을 희망하는 인재를 선발해 1인당 연 최대 5,000만 원을 2년간 학자금·생활비로 지원하는 프로그램이다.
지난 2024년 제1기 장학생 2명, 2025년 제2기 장학생 2명을 선발·지원한 데 이어 지난 10월부터 2026년 제3기 장학생을 선발하기 위한 사업 공고가 진행 중이다.
시는 순수한 지역 기부금으로만 운영되는 해외 유학 지원 장학사업이 이번 협약을 계기로 더욱 안정적이고 확대된 규모로 운영될 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
박용우 SK바이오텍㈜ 대표이사는 “세종시의 미래를 이끌어갈 세계적인 인재 육성에 동참하게 되어 매우 뜻깊게 생각한다”며 “앞으로도 SK바이오텍은 세종시의 동반자로서 사회적 책임을 다하고 지역 사회와 상생하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 전했다.
최민호 시장은 “‘세종, 세계로 장학금’ 사업에 SK바이오텍㈜가 통 큰 지원을 결정해 준 것에 감사드린다”며 “세계 무대에서 본인의 경쟁력을 직접 확인하고 국내로 돌아와서는 시는 물론 우리나라 발전에 기여하는 인재로 성장하길 기대한다”고 말했다.
한편, SK바이오텍㈜는 원료 의약품 및 의약 중간체를 제조·판매하는 세계적인 기업으로, 현재 세종시 연동면 명학산업단지 내에서 첨단설비를 갖춘 생산공장을 운영하고 있다.
