파주시가 대형 복합쇼핑몰 '스타필드 빌리지 운정' 개장으로 인한 교통 혼잡에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 주변 교차로 신호체계를 전면 개편했다.
시는 12월 2일부터 스타필드 빌리지 운정과 직접 연결되는 주변 12개 교차로의 신호체계를 조정해 현장에 적용하기 시작했다고 5일 밝혔다.
이번 조치는 대형 복합시설 개장 초기에 발생할 수 있는 교통 혼잡을 최소화하기 위한 것으로, 시는 '스마트 교차로' 시스템을 활용해 시간대와 요일별 교통 상황에 맞춰 신호를 탄력적으로 운영한다.

구체적으로 오전 개장 시간 직후에는 시설 내 진입 차량이 집중되는 점을 감안해 진입 방향의 신호 시간을 확대했다.
반대로 오후 시간대에는 귀가 차량 증가에 대응해 진출 방향 신호 시간을 늘렸다.
또한 주변 교차로 간 신호 연동체계도 함께 조정해 차량 흐름의 효율성을 높였다.
시는 지난 11월 13일 이 같은 개선안을 마련한 뒤 개장일인 12월 2일부터 즉시 시행에 들어갔으며, 현재 실시간으로 교통 정보를 수집하고 분석하고 있다.
특히 개장 초기에는 교통 흐름이 불안정한 구간을 집중 관찰하며 필요시 즉각적인 보완 조치를 취해 시민 불편을 최소화한다는 방침이다.
