【브레이크뉴스 경북】박영재 기자=경상북도는 9일 경상북도문화관광공사에서 아시아태평양관광협회(PATA)를 비롯해 경주시, 포항시, 경상북도문화관광공사와 함께 2026년 PATA 연차총회의 성공적 개최를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

PATA 연차총회는 아시아·태평양 지역 정부, 지자체, 관광업계가 참여하는 대표적인 국제 관광 행사로, 내년 연차총회는 5월 11일부터 5월 13일까지 3일간 포항 라한호텔(1일차), 경주 HICO(2~3일차)에서 열린다.
이날 협약식에는 누어 아흐마드 하미드(Mr. Noor Ahmad Hamid) PATA CEO, 김병곤 경상북도 문화관광체육국장, 김남일 경상북도문화관광공사 사장, 경주시 및 포항시 관계자 등이 참석해 내년 PATA 연차총회 준비를 위한 협력 방향과 경북 관광 활성화 방안 등을 논의했다.
5개 기관은 이번 협약을 통해 ▴2026년 PATA 연차총회 개최를 위한 기반시설과 프로그램 제공 등 행·재정 지원 ▴경주·포항 관광 활성화를 위한 국제 홍보 등에 긴밀히 협력하기로 했다.
협약식에 이어 행사 준비 상황 점검을 위해 9일부터 4일간 PATA 본사 관계자들이 현장실사를 진행한다. 실사단은 교통 동선, 행사장 및 숙박시설, 지역 관광지 및 한식 체험 행사 등을 직접 확인하며 개최 여건을 점검한다.
경북도와 경상북도문화관광공사는 2025년 APEC 정상회의의 경주 유치 이후, 경북의 글로벌 홍보 전략의 일환으로 국제행사 유치를 적극 추진했고, 그 결과 2026년 PATA 연차총회 유치에 성공했다.
도는 내년 연차총회가 POST APEC 시대 경주·포항의 글로벌 관광 경쟁력을 한층 더 높이는 중요한 계기가 될 것으로 전망한다.
김병곤 경상북도 문화관광체육국장은 “내년 PATA 연차총회는 APEC 정상회의에 이어 경북을 국제사회에 다시 한번 알릴 기회가 될 것”이라며, “행사를 빈틈없이 준비해 경주·포항이 글로벌 관광거점으로 도약할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

Next year's meeting will be held for three days, from May 11th to 13th, at the Lahan Hotel in Pohang (Day 1) and HICO in Gyeongju (Days 2-3).
The signing ceremony was attended by PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid, Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture, Tourism, and Sports Bureau Director Kim Byung-gon, Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization President Kim Nam-il, and officials from Gyeongju and Pohang. They discussed cooperation in preparation for next year's PATA Annual General Meeting and ways to revitalize tourism in Gyeongbuk.
Through this agreement, the five organizations agreed to closely collaborate on administrative and financial support, including infrastructure and programs for the 2026 PATA Annual General Meeting, and international promotion to revitalize tourism in Gyeongju and Pohang.
Following the signing ceremony, PATA headquarters officials will conduct a four-day on-site inspection, starting on the 9th, to assess the preparations for the event. The inspection team will personally inspect transportation routes, the event venue and accommodations, local tourist attractions, and Korean food experience programs to assess the hosting environment.
Following Gyeongju's bid to host the 2025 APEC Summit, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and the Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization actively pursued international events as part of Gyeongsangbuk-do's global promotional strategy, resulting in the successful hosting of the 2026 PATA Annual General Meeting.
The province anticipates that next year's annual general meeting will serve as a crucial opportunity to further enhance Gyeongju and Pohang's global tourism competitiveness in the post-APEC era.
Kim Byeong-gon, Director of the Culture, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, stated, "Next year's PATA Annual General Meeting will once again provide an opportunity to promote Gyeongsangbuk-do to the international community, following the APEC Summit. We will do our utmost to meticulously prepare for this event and help Gyeongju and Pohang emerge as global tourism hubs."
