태안경찰서(서장 정혜심)는 연말연시를 맞아 음주운전으로 인한 비극을 막고 군민의 안전을 확보하기 위해 특별단속을 강화하고 있다고 밝혔다.
이번 특별단속은 2025년 12월 1일부터 2026년 1월 31일까지 약 두 달간 주야를 가리지 않고 불시에 진행될 예정이다.
경찰은 술자리가 잦아지는 연말연시의 특성을 고려하여, 유흥가와 번화가 등 음주운전 취약 지역을 중심으로 더욱 철저하게 단속을 이어갈 방침이다.
특히 단순 음주운전뿐만 아니라 마약류 운전, 안전벨트 미착용 등에 대해서도 강력한 단속을 펼쳐나갈 계획이어서 눈길을 끌고 있다.

올해 초부터 꾸준히 강화된 음주운전 단속은 이미 긍정적인 성과를 보이고 있다. 전년 대비 음주운전으로 인한 교통사고는 8.7% 감소했으며, 사망사고는 무려 25%나 줄어들어 안전한 교통 환경 조성에 크게 기여하고 있다.
이러한 성과를 바탕으로 한 이번 특별단속은 12월 9일 야간 불시 단속 과정에서 그 효과를 입증했다. 당시 두 명의 음주운전자가 단속되었고, 한 명의 운전자가 도주를 시도했으나 태안경찰서의 신속한 대응으로 약 200미터 지점에서 추적 끝에 단속 절차를 마치는 성과를 거두었다.
태안경찰서 관계자는 "음주운전은 자신뿐만 아니라 타인의 소중한 생명까지 위협하는 중대한 범죄임을 명심해야 한다"며, "반드시 술을 마셨을 때는 운전대를 잡지 말아 달라"고 강력히 당부했다.
또한 음주 후 귀가 시에는 대중교통이나 대리운전을 적극 이용해 주시길 권장하며, "안전하고 즐거운 연말연시를 보낼 수 있도록 군민 여러분의 적극적인 협조를 부탁드린다"고 덧붙였다.
