아침에 먼저 로컬 마켓을 둘러보았으나, 기대와 달리 가격이 그다지 저렴하지 않았다.
일반 슈퍼마켓과 크게 다르지 않은 수준일 뿐 아니라,
오히려 제품의 질은 슈퍼 쪽이 더 나은 듯한 인상마저 준다.
특히 우편 요금은 더욱 놀라웠다. 취리히에서 도쿄로 초콜릿 2킬로그램을 보내는 데
50스위스 프랑이 들 정도이니, 이는 몰타보다도 높은 수준이다.
일반적인 식사 비용은 20~25스위스 프랑 정도로,
이곳 물가를 고려하면 오히려 ‘저렴한 편’에 속한다.
그러나 슈퍼에서 산 장바구니의 합계를 보면 상황은 달라진다.
신라면 몇 개와 몇 가지 식료품만 담아도 100스위스 프랑을 훌쩍 넘고,
오리가미와 찻잔 두어 개에 60스위스 프랑이 드는 것을 보면 절로 놀라움이 앞선다.
생각 없이 쇼핑하다 보면 지갑이 얼마나 얇아지는지 실감하게 된다.
오가닉 로션 하나에 120스위스 프랑,
품질이 조금만 좋은 신발은 270스위스 프랑,
유명 브랜드가 아님에도 불구하고 옷이나 코트는 대부분 250스위스 프랑은 기본이다.
스위스 프랑의 가치가 유로화보다 높은 만큼,
이를 한화나 엔화로 환산해도 부담스러운 가격임은 변함이 없다.
이처럼 교통비와 식비를 포함해 취리히에서 한 달 동안 생활하려면 적지 않은 지출이 예상된다.
특히 다른 도시로 이동하는 기차 요금은 그야말로 ‘살인적’이라는 표현이 과하지 않을 만큼 고가다.
아름다운 도시의 풍경만큼이나 물가 또한 높다는 사실을 새삼 실감하게 된다.
I began my day by browsing the local morning market,
only to find that the prices were far from inexpensive.
They were not much different from those at a typical supermarket, and in fact,
the quality of the products seemed better at the supermarket.
What surprised me even more was the postage fee: sending two kilograms of chocolate

It becomes clear how quickly expenses rise when shopping without much thought.
An organic lotion costs around 120 francs, a pair of decent shoes about 270 francs,
and even non-brand-name clothes or coats generally start at 250 francs.
Since the Swiss franc is stronger than the euro, converting
these prices into yen or won hardly makes the burden lighter.
Considering transportation and food expenses as well, living in Zurich
for a month is expected to be far from affordable.
Train fares to other cities, in particular, are astonishingly high—
so much so that “prohibitively expensive” feels like no exaggeration. In Zurich,
the charm of the scenery is matched only by the weight of its prices.

オーガニックのローションは120フラン、少し良い靴は270フラン、
有名ブランドでなくても衣類やコートは大抵250フランは覚悟しなければならない。
スイスフランはユーロより強いため、円やウォンに換算しても高いことに変わりはない。
このように、交通費や食費まで含めると、
チューリッヒで1か月暮らすにはかなりの支出を覚悟しなければならない。
他都市への列車代はとりわけ高く、“殺人的な価格”という表現さえ大げさではない。
風光明媚な景色と同じくらい、この街の物価もまた圧倒的に高いのだと実感する。
