포항제철소는 여러 봉사단이 참여한 가운데 환경 정화, 물품 제작, 주거 환경 개선 등 분야별 맞춤형 봉사활동을 통해 지역사회와의 상생을 실천하고 있다.
지난 6일에는 포스코 클린오션 봉사단이 포항 북구 청하면 앞바다에서 약 6시간에 걸쳐 해양 환경정화 활동을 실시했다. 봉사단원들은 수중 해양 생물 채취와 오염물 수거 작업을 병행하며 겨울철 해양 환경 보전에 힘을 보탰다. 같은 날 기술나눔 봉사단은 흥해초등학교와 항구초등학교에 전달할 학용품을 제작하고 포장하는 활동을 진행했다.
또한 목공예봉사단은 포항 남구 청림동 일월경로당에 기증할 신발장과 진열장을 제작했다. 10명의 단원이 참여한 이번 활동은 원목 절단부터 조립까지 전 과정을 수작업으로 진행해 완성도를 높였다.
이어 12일에는 비가 내리는 궂은 날씨 속에서도 포항제철소 재능봉사단 25명이 청림동을 찾아 다양한 재능 나눔 활동을 펼쳤다. 붕어빵 나눔을 비롯해 조경, 이미용, 자전거 수리 등 생활 밀착형 봉사활동을 진행했으며, 이불세트 등 방한용품을 전달하는 등 겨울철 취약계층 주거 환경 개선에도 힘을 보탰다.
포스코 포항제철소 관계자는 “겨울을 맞아 지역 이웃들에게 작은 힘이나마 보태기 위해 임직원들이 자발적으로 봉사활동에 참여하고 있다”며 “올해에만 약 15만 시간의 봉사를 진행한 만큼 앞으로도 지역사회에 실질적인 도움이 되는 나눔 활동을 지속해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
한편 포항제철소는 연말을 맞아 사랑의 김장 나눔 행사 등 다양한 겨울나기 봉사활동을 이어가며 지역사회 전반에 따뜻한 기운을 확산해 나갈 계획이다.

A POSCO Pohang Works representative stated, "Our employees are voluntarily participating in volunteer activities to provide even a small amount of support to our local neighbors during the winter season. Having volunteered approximately 150,000 hours this year alone, we will continue to provide practical support to the local community."
Meanwhile, Pohang Works plans to continue its various winter volunteer activities, including the "Kimchi Sharing" event, to spread warmth throughout the community as the year-end approaches.
