브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 30년 넘게 KT에 몸담아온 박윤영 전 KT 기업부문장(사장)이 차기 KT 대표이사 최종 후보로 선정됐다. 박 내정자는 2020년과 2023년에 이어 세 번째 도전 끝에 대표이사 후보 자리에 올랐다.
KT 이사회는 16일 박 내정자를 차기 대표이사 후보로 확정했다고 밝혔다. 이사회 산하 이사후보추천위원회는 최종 후보군 3명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 진행한 뒤 박 내정자를 단독 후보로 선정했으며, 이사회는 이를 내년 3월 정기 주주총회에 상정하기로 의결했다.
박 내정자는 주형철 전 SK커뮤니케이션즈 대표, 홍원표 전 SK쉴더스 대표와 함께 최종 후보군에 포함됐으며, 이 가운데 가장 정통 KT 출신 내부 인사로 평가받았다. 1962년생인 박 내정자는 1992년 한국통신에 입사한 이후 미래사업개발, 글로벌사업, 기업부문 등 주요 보직을 두루 거치며 30년 이상 KT에서 근무했다.

해킹 여파로 주춤했던 인공지능과 디지털 전환 사업 재정비도 주요 과제로 꼽힌다. KT는 마이크로소프트와의 협업을 통해 5년간 2조4000억원을 투자하고, 4조6000억원 규모의 AI 전환 사업 매출을 달성하겠다는 목표를 제시했지만 해킹 사태 이후 전략 추진 동력이 약화됐다는 평가를 받고 있다. 이동통신 3사 가운데 유일하게 정부의 독자 AI 파운데이션 모델 프로젝트에서 탈락한 점도 부담 요인이다.
KT 이사회는 박 내정자에 대해 "KT 사업 전반에 대한 이해와 기술 기반 경영 역량을 바탕으로 DX와 B2B 분야에서 성과를 낸 인물"이라고 평가했다. 박 내정자는 주주와 시장과의 약속 이행을 강조하며 실질적인 현안 대응 방안을 제시한 것으로 전해졌다.
