충남 태안군이 ‘2025년 2분기 전국 인구감소지역 생활인구’ 조사에서 전국 89개 지역 중 체류인구 3위를 차지하며, 서해안 대표 관광휴양도시로서의 위상을 다시 입증했다.
17일 태안군에 따르면, 행정안전부와 통계청이 발표한 ‘2025년 2분기 생활인구 통계’에서 태안군의 체류인구는 총 177만 6015명으로 집계됐다. 이는 등록인구 6만 2000여 명 대비 약 9.6배에 달하는 수치로, 전국 인구감소지역 평균(4.7배)의 두 배를 넘는 수준이다.
월별로 보면 △4월 53만 6564명(4위) △5월 68만 7000명(2위) △6월 55만 2451명(4위)으로, 전 기간에 걸쳐 전국 상위권을 유지했다.
태안군은 “등록인구 대비 체류인구가 압도적으로 많은 지역”이라며 “관광과 일자리, 교통 접근성 등 다양한 요인이 복합적으로 작용한 결과”라고 분석했다.
체류인구와 주민등록인구, 외국인등록인구를 합한 ‘생활인구’ 역시 전국 인구감소지역 중 4위를 기록했다. 인구 규모로만 보면 작은 도시이지만, 인구 유입 수준에서는 전국 최고 수준의 활력을 보였다는 평가다.
또한 태안군은 같은 조사에서 체류 시간 12.4시간, 등록인구 대비 체류인구 카드 사용액 비중 46.9%, 타 시·도 거주자 비율 81.5% 등을 기록해 경제 순환 효과 역시 높은 것으로 나타났다. 관광객 체류 시간이 길고 소비 규모가 커 지역경제에 실질적인 도움이 되고 있다는 분석이다.
이러한 흐름을 바탕으로 내년에는 태안해양치유센터 본격 운영 ,‘2026 태안국제원예치유박람회’ 준비 ,‘태안방문의 해’ 연장 운영 등을 통해 관광 활성화와 생활인구 확대에 나설 계획이다.
태안군 관계자는 “한국관광공사 ‘한국관광데이터랩’ 기준 올해 태안을 찾은 방문객이 1700만 명을 넘었고, 이는 지난해 대비 4% 이상 증가한 수치”라며 “이 같은 활력을 내년까지 이어가 지역경제와 인구정책의 선순환을 완성하겠다”고 말했다.
