【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 증평군이 보행자 중심의 생활환경 조성에 속도를 내고 있다.
군은 사업비 2000만 원을 투입해 증평읍 장동리 415번지 일원, 리틀대통령 어린이집 앞 보행로 정비공사를 완료했다고 밝혔다.
이번에 정비된 구간은 연장 90m, 폭 3.5m 규모로, 어린이집 이용 아동과 학부모의 통행이 잦아 보행 안전 확보가 특히 요구되던 곳이다.
해당 구간은 그동안 노후화된 보도블럭과 파손된 포장재, 가로수 뿌리로 들뜬 보호대 등으로 인해 보행 불편은 물론 안전사고 우려가 지속적으로 제기돼 왔다.
군은 이러한 문제를 해소하기 위해 보행환경 개선사업의 일환으로 보도블럭 재포장, 요철 구간 보수, 가로수 보호대 정비 등 보행 안전을 저해하던 요소를 전반적으로 개선했다.
아울러 보행 흐름과 시인성을 고려한 정비를 병행해 안전성과 미관을 함께 끌어올렸다.
이번 정비로 어린이집 원아와 학부모는 물론 인근 주민들까지 보다 쾌적하고 안전한 보행환경을 누릴 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
군은 앞으로도 노후 보도 정비와 빗물받이 개선 등 주민 생활과 직결되는 생활밀착형 도로 유지관리 사업을 지속적으로 추진할 방침이다.
특히 생활권 주변 보행안전 취약구간을 선제적으로 발굴해 단계적인 정비를 이어갈 계획이다.
군 관계자는 “이번 보행로 정비를 통해 어린이들이 보다 안전하게 등·하원할 수 있는 환경이 조성됐다”며 “앞으로도 주민들이 체감할 수 있는 보행환경 개선을 꾸준히 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
