브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= KG모빌리티(KGM)가 친환경차 미래 시장 대응을 위해 삼성SDI와 전기차 배터리팩 개발 및 사업화를 위한 전략적 파트너십 구축 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다.
KGM은 지난 22일 서울 중구 KG타워에서 삼성SDI와 MOU 체결식을 열고, 원통형 NCA 배터리팩 공동 개발과 사업화를 위해 상호 긴밀히 협력하기로 했다고 23일 밝혔다. 이날 행사에는 KGM 곽정현 사업전략부문장과 삼성SDI 최익규 소형사업부장을 비롯한 양사 관계자들이 참석했다.
이번 협약을 통해 양사는 원통형 NCA(니켈·코발트·알루미늄) 배터리팩 개발을 중심으로 고전압 배터리팩 개발, 시험 및 생산 전반에 걸쳐 협력을 확대해 나갈 계획이다.
공동 개발에 활용되는 삼성SDI의 원통형 46시리즈(지름 46mm) NCA 배터리는 높은 에너지 밀도를 기반으로 긴 주행거리와 빠른 충전 속도를 동시에 구현할 수 있는 것이 특징이다. 또한 향상된 안전성과 내구성을 갖춰 다양한 주행 환경에서도 안정적인 성능을 발휘한다.
특히 고용량 하이니켈 NCA 양극재와 삼성SDI의 특허 소재인 SCN(Silicon Carbon Nanocomposite) 음극재를 적용해 배터리 스웰링 현상을 줄이는 동시에 에너지 밀도와 수명을 높였으며, 안전성도 함께 확보했다. 여기에 탭리스 구조를 적용해 고출력과 급속 충전 성능을 강화하고, 열 확산 구조 개선과 제조 공정 고도화를 통해 품질 신뢰성도 높였다.
양사는 이번 협력을 계기로 배터리 공동 기획과 제품 라인업 협력, 글로벌 시장 협력 브랜드 전략 수립, 신기술 공동 검토 체계 운영 등 장기적인 파트너십도 구축한다는 방침이다.
곽정현 KGM 사업전략부문장은 "삼성SDI와의 협력을 통해 전기차 배터리 소재 다변화 등 급변하는 산업 환경과 정책 변화에 능동적으로 대응하고, 배터리팩 개발 역량을 강화함으로써 글로벌 시장에서의 안정적인 성장 기반을 마련했다"면서 "앞으로도 핵심 성장동력인 전동화 기술 개발을 가속화해 지속가능한 성장 기반을 다져 나가겠다"고 말했다.
