브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 알뜰폰 사업자 KT엠모바일(대표 구강본)이 eSIM 기반 데이터 로밍 서비스 ‘모비(mobi)’를 출시하며 글로벌 시장으로 사업 영역을 확장한다고 29일 밝혔다.
‘모비’는 별도의 유심 교체 없이 eSIM을 통해 해외에서 데이터를 사용할 수 있는 서비스로, 전용 앱 또는 네이버 스마트스토어를 통해 상품을 구매하고 eSIM을 등록하면 즉시 이용할 수 있다. 일본·중국·베트남 등 동남아 주요 국가를 비롯해 미국과 유럽 등 약 70개국에서 현지 도착과 동시에 데이터 사용이 가능하다.
eSIM을 지원하는 단말기라면 통신사와 관계없이 누구나 이용할 수 있으며, 기존 유심은 그대로 유지한 채 데이터만 eSIM으로 설정할 수 있어 국내 번호로 통화와 문자를 계속 사용할 수 있는 것이 특징이다.
