포항시와 포항문화재단이 주최·주관한 제28회 호미곶한민족해맞이축전은 단순한 일출 행사를 넘어, 한 해의 끝과 시작을 잇는 공동체의 축제로 펼쳐졌다.
전야제는 31일 밤 11시부터 시작됐다. 무대 위 공연과 함께 카운트다운, 대형 멀티미디어 연출이 어우러지며 광장의 열기는 자정에 가까워질수록 높아졌다. 새해가 밝자 환호와 박수가 밤바다 위로 번져갔다.
1월 1일 새벽, 공식 해맞이 행사는 차분하면서도 의미 있게 진행됐다. 새해 인사와 축하공연, 그리고 포항시가 선정한 올해의 사자성어 발표가 이어졌다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “호미곶한민족해맞이축전은 포항의 새해를 여는 대표적인 행사”라며 “시민 모두가 호미곶에서 떠오르는 첫 태양의 희망찬 기운을 안고 2026년을 힘차게 시작하길 바란다”고 말했다.
