도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 4일(현지시간) "코카인을 만들어 미국에 파는 걸 좋아하는 병든 자가 운영하고 있어 콜롬비아도 매우 아프다"고 밝혔다.
영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 미 플로리다주 마러라고 자택에서 워싱턴 DC로 향하는 미 대통령 전용기 에어포스 원 기내에서 취재진과 만나 사실상 구스타보 페트로 콜롬비아 대통령(병든 자)을 지목하면서 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "그(페트로 콜롬비아 대통령)는 이걸 아주 오랫동안 하진 못할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
또 '콜롬비아에 대한 군사 작전을 생각하는가'란 취재진 질의엔 "그거 좋게 들린다"고 답했다.
이어 "쿠바는 붕괴 직전으로 보이며 버틸 수 있을지 모르겠다"며 "쿠바는 현재 수입이 없고, 모든 수입을 베네수엘라 석유에 의존해 왔다"고 했다.
더불어 "지금은 전혀 못 받고 있으며 말 그대로 붕괴 직전"이라며 "이 소식에 기뻐할 훌륭한 쿠바계 미국인들이 많다"고 덧붙였다.
앞서 지난 3일(현지시간) 마약을 표면적 근거로 니콜라스 마두로 베네수엘라 대통령 부부를 체포·압송한 직후 나온 발언이어서 향배가 주목된다. 특히 친중 성향 마두로 대통령과 베네수엘라는 세계 부정선거 한 축으로 의심받고 있는 상황이다.
향후 미국의 콜롬비아 공습 가능성 역시 배제 못할 것으로 보이는 가운데 트럼프 대통령이 쿠바 포함 좌파 집권 국가들에 대한 경고 메시지를 연이어 하고 있어 미국의 향후 행보·로드맵에 세계 이목이 집중되는 형국이다.
